Path of Exile Item Upgrading

In Path of Exile, item upgrading is one of the Best item upgrade ways to improve your gear without relying upon big-ticket drops or trade. This article will show you how to upgrade your items efficiently.

Upgrading equipment grants a bonus to the item's base stats. This bonus is based on the upgrade component level and rarity.

Components

Upgrade components are the parts that make your weapons and armor better. They can be found through destroying enemies, buying them from karma vendors, or finding them in the form of item-spheres. They can also be rescued from equipment with them, or by utilizing the highest-quality salvage kits such as the Black Lion Salvage Kit or Ascended Salvage Tool. Contrary to other products, upgrade components are not destroyed when they are removed from an item.

The main function of upgrade components is to enable an item to be upgraded, however, they also serve other purposes. They can be stacked to boost the level or experience gained by upgrading existing equipment or weapons. They can also be forged to give additional bonuses. For instance, a specially created glyph can increase the chances of upgrading its target, and an upgrade boost will enhance the defense or attack quality of a weapon or armor.

By selecting an upgrade template from the GUI will allow you to bind it to an item. It will display a list of upgrade components that the item can be upgraded to. You can also use the workbench when selecting an upgrade template. In either instance the item will be upgraded once enough upgrade components are collected.

Each component has a unique experience multiplier. This determines the amount of experience an item will gain when upgraded using the component. Organic components, for instance have an increased multiplier of experience than mechanical components. You should upgrade organic components first until you reach the next rank in the weapon or equipment and then switch to the mechanical upgrades.

Each item comes with a maximum upgrade number that can be received. The number of upgrades is determined by the rank that can be upgraded and the upgrade type of the upgradeable item. For instance, the most expensive possible weapon upgrade is a weapon of tier 10. The most commonly used upgrade is a tier 6 gun and an armor upgrade of tier 5.

Sets

A set is a collection of items which all have the same bonus. Each item in the set can be upgraded at least one time, and the upgrade will increase the guaranteed bonuses. When you first upgrade an item, its initial stat will be +1. On subsequent upgrades, the primary stats are enhanced even more (for instance +1 for 12+/13+/14+) and every time an item is upgraded one of its additional stats is increased randomly.

Upgrades can also boost the base damage of a weapon. This may be important for certain types of weapons. Weapons can't be upgraded for an increased maximum defence roll than their base. The reward can be rerolled a single time using the same materials as original item.

Rerolling

If a player has enough rerolling tokens, they can roll any item they've acquired during the game. If an item is rerolled, it will be replaced by the same level in another set. Reroll tokens can be purchased from the store for small amounts of in-game currency, but they are not refundable. The new item will come with the same extra bonuses like the first, however the stats will also differ.

In addition to rerolling items, players can also change the identification of any equipment by interfacing with an upgrader NPC. This will change its identification from a weapon to an armor or vice versa. The basic stats and requirements remain the same. The change will be permanent and will affect all characters who own the equipment.
