This makes the i3+ a great option for those who want an automated, hands-free cleaning experience, but aren't afraid of having to empty their dust bin manually as it gets full.

Both robots are adept at cleaning up surface debris from hard floors and carpets, and they're excellent at maneuvering around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software creates a smart maps of your home to aid the i3+ in its navigation and clean efficiently. The i3+ does not have obstacle avoidance capabilities like the i7+ or other top-rated robots we have tested. It can get stuck on power cords or socks and have trouble moving between surfaces, such as rug and hardwood.

iRobot recommends you clear out areas that the i3+ EVO will vacuum before you use it, and include getting rid of any toys or clutter it may come across. It's also an excellent idea to keep the dust bin and filter clean so that they aren't clogged by dirt. If the i3+'s internal bin is empty or the battery is low it returns to the docking station and emptys the dirt into the docking station’s external dustbin. Then it continues cleaning where it began. The battery's life span is approximately an hour and a half of constant usage. It takes three hours to fully charge.

2. iRobot i7+ Roomba

The iRobot Roomba i7+ is the most powerful model of the flagship line from iRobot, and it comes with all the latest features. It has self-charging and self-navigating, but the most significant feature is its self-emptying bin. This removes the need for regular maintenance.

The Roomba i7+ is able to remember up to 10 floor plans and their names using Imprint Smart Mapping, which lets it create maps of rooms so that it can clean them more efficiently. It also works with iRobot Home to schedule cleaning jobs, and you can control your best inexpensive robot vacuum via the app or by voice.

In our testing the i7+ performed faster and more maneuverable than our second-placed model, the eufy best robovac G30, and it removed large chunks of pet hair from all surfaces types, including carpeting. The biggest advantage over the Eufy is its self-emptying bin, which eliminates major sources of maintenance and lowers the cost of recurring maintenance.

We were also impressed by the i7+'s compatibility with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant AI services which we used to instruct the robot to begin, stop or pause its cleaning sessions and move around the room and vacuum a specific space. Connecting the i7+ to these services was easy and easy with the iRobot Home app. We were able, once connected, to voice commands to the i7+ such as "Hey Alexa vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home app also provides options to manage the i7+'s preferences and monitoring its performance.

The biggest issue with the V10 is its short run time. As CR's tests show, its marketing claims of up to 60 minutes are misleading. This is a common battery-powered cordless vacuum's run time. It was able to remove all kinds of debris and sizes during our tests and would often go over the same area many times for an efficient clean. Its flat front makes it possible to reach corners and edges of walls.

Its navigation system is smart and uses iAdapt to avoid obstacles and navigate your home, but it's not equipped with the mapping capabilities of more sophisticated models like our top selections such as the i3+ EVO and the j7+ series. It may get stuck on phone cords or low furniture and often runs out of power before returning to its base.

The Xiaomi Mi robot vacuum is superior to the Roomba 694 in most respects because it has fewer parts that require regular maintenance and is equipped with an allergen-trapping HEPA filter, has lower recurring costs, comes with more advanced automation capabilities and does a better job maneuvering itself. It also has a bigger dustbin and charges quicker.

The eufy RoboVac X8 has a superior battery life than the Roomba 694. It also comes with physical boundaries and can be controlled with the voice assistant on your smartphone. It also feels more sturdy, has a more powerful motor, and is able to perform better on floors that are bare and carpets with a low pile, as well as providing a greater variety of automation options.
