The robots also feature Carpet Boost, a feature which boosts its power when it detects dirt on the carpet.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored very well in our tests of floors with no carpet They are also adept in removing hair from dogs. However, they do have some flaws that prevent them from being our top choice. One of them is that the Q5's navigation doesn't have AI-powered obstacle avoidance, so it's prone to become entangled in socks and shoes and couldn't navigate tight spaces very well in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that can see around corners.

However, it's a good choice to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on a Roomba from iRobot, and you have a bare-floored home or office. It's also very quiet and operates while you're at work or in school. The only thing it's missing that you won't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on floors that aren't clean. And it's less effective at mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes that don't hold on very well and can't handle dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with self-emptying docks, however. And, if you have to change the mopping pad for dry ones in just a few minutes.

2. iRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact elegant autonomous vacuum cleaner that can also sweep floors. Its quick navigation and smart cleaning maps make it easy to clean and efficient at tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also has a self-emptying bin as well as powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the most efficient robotic hoover for carpets, but it's not as good as other hoovers when it comes to deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mop utilizes sensors to avoid obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the layout of your home over time to offer cleaner and more efficient cleaning. The app allows you to modify zones and alter the cleaning schedule. Its battery life is average compared to similar models.

You can instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and to extend them when in a room with carpet, which helps prevent cross-contamination. Its flex arm is great for getting under low-lying furniture and along baseboards. However, it doesn't have the same level of washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Pro+ as well as the iRobot Combo j9+.

During testing during testing, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop to complete an entire home, and it did so with the battery at 66 percent left. It did a great cleaning job on a variety of rooms and floors with various flooring types, including certain area rug. Its obstacle detection was top-of-the-line and it swiftly eluded fake dog socks, turds and cables.

It's more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but it has superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It is able to clean floors even after it has vacuumed. This is a feature that we haven't seen on other Best robot vacuum cleaner UK vacuum/mop combination.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

With an elegant circular design that looks more like a normal Roomba than the competition's boxy units This robot vacuum and mop combo is one of the most appealing looking in our reviews. iRobot's latest flagship model also is its most advanced and has advanced features like enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot hoover and mop that can autonomously wash mop pads).

It's also the sole robot vacuum or mop that scored a perfect 10 out of 10 in our tests. This is thanks to the combination of high-tech sensors, including a structured lighting system, a camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that is fully self-refill and empty its base station, and it has an its own self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40, like other iRobot products, is easy to use. It has an intuitive mobile app interface that is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only drawback is that it's loud that could be problematic if you run it in the morning before work, or at night when you try to fall asleep.

It's also somewhat expensive, but it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra, both of which are equally powerful and look better. If you're willing to live with a bit more noise and some extra cost it's a powerful two-in-one that will delight most.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the line robot mop and vacuum. It comes with a variety of features that are advanced and will make you forget about your chores. Like Ecovacs range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that can take the care of vacuuming and mopping, with a multi-function dock that automatically emptys the vacuum's trash bin, refills its water tank, and washes and dries its mop pads.

The smart robot utilizes LIDAR and structured lighting to create floor plans and detect obstacles. It is more efficient in its navigation than its competitors with premium features. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards but this wasn't foolproof in our tests and best robot Hoover was sometimes confused with obstructions or power cords.

Its vacuum has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to complete the task. It also has a feature known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the house depending on how dirty the areas tend to be.

For bigger homes it's recommended to choose models with zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean one particular area of your home by using the app or voice commands. If you have lots of furniture, a stair mode is also a good option. For families that are busy recharge functions and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum with mop vacuum to pick up where it left off could be very beneficial.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is more advanced than its price would suggest. It is a great job cleaning, removing 55% of the debris that was found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses with one pad that has an oscillating motion that cleans better than most of the other robot mop cleaners we've tried. It's also self-sufficient with a full-featured app and a self-emptying base that can be washed.

The iRobot application is designed to guide you through a mapping run which collects information about your floorplan and any "no go" areas that you've marked on the map. You can use it to make cleaning schedules, arrange the perfect spot for cleaning or prioritise your dirtiest rooms to improve performance. The app offers a variety of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping and advanced cleaning settings.

It also has the ability to reach corners and under furniture more easily because its shape is more rectangular. It also has strong 8,000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs for hair of pets. It also has the ability to set up a spot clean that scours a specific area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and more affordable alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras look like cute eyes. It does a good job vacuuming, but it is more susceptible to getting caught on low thresholds and is louder than the other top robot vacuums we've examined. It also has a less intuitive app and a tiny base station that isn't able to double as an emptying bin.
