Like other premium iRobot models (including the top choice) they utilize smart mapping technology to design precise floor plans and eliminate home-based obstacles like cords and furniture legs. They also come with carpet boost, a feature which boosts the robot's power when it spots the presence of dirt on the carpet, allowing it cleaned up quickly.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored extremely well in our tests on bare floors They are also adept in removing hair from dogs. However, they do have a few flaws however, which hinder them from being our top choice. One of them is that the Q5's navigation system does not feature AI-powered obstacle avoidance technology and is therefore prone to getting hung up on socks and shoes and couldn't navigate tight spaces very well in our tests. It doesn't also have a camera to see around corners.

Still, it's very good, especially if you want to save money on an Roomba from iRobot and have a bare-floored home or office. It's also extremely quiet and can be used while you are at work or at school. It lacks the edge-to-edge bare floor vacuuming feature that's offered by the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective in mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on well and aren't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying cradle that can be emptied by itself. And, if you need to, you can swap the mopping pad for a dry one in seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact sleek and stylish vacuum cleaner that can mop floors. Its nimble navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it quick to clean and effective at taking on larger particles, such as pet hair. It also has an impressive suction system and an automatic bin for emptying. It's the best robot vacuum robot hoover for carpets, although it lags behind some competitors in deep cleaning.

This high-performing combination vacuum and mop utilizes advanced sensors to avoid obstacles and pet waste, and it also learns your home's layout over time to provide more efficient cleaning. The app allows you to set up zones and modify the cleaning schedule. It has a battery lifespan that is similar to other models.

You can tell the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and extend them when it's in a carpeted area which prevents cross-contamination. Its flex arm can also be used to reach beneath low-lying furnishings and along baseboards. However, it's not equipped with the same level of washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Pro+ as well as the iRobot Combo j9+.

It even cleans the floor after it vacuums, a feature that we haven't seen in other robot autonomous vacuum/mop combinations.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

With an elegant circular design that looks more like a normal Roomba than the competition's compact models this mop and robot vacuum is one of the most appealing looking in our evaluations. The latest model from iRobot is its most advanced and has advanced features like enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can autonomously wash mop pads).

It's the only robot vacuum/mop that has an exemplary 10/10 in our tests, thanks to a combination of high-tech sensors, which include cameras, a structured lighting system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mops.

Like other iRobot models as well, the X40 is user-friendly, with an intuitive mobile app interface, and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Google Assistant. The only drawback is that the X40 still a noisy unit. This can be a problem in mornings prior to work or during the night when you are trying to sleep.

It's also quite expensive, but not as much as the Ecovacs S8 MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally impressive and attractive. If you're willing with a bit more noise and some additional cost it's a powerful two-in-one that will delight most.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with a lot of advanced features to help you get rid of your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaner like Ecovacs the top of the line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It features a multi-functional dock that can automatically empty the vacuum's bin and fills up the water tank, and washes and drys the mop pads.

The smart robot uses a combination of LIDAR and structured light to draw out floor plans and spot obstacles, and navigates more effectively than its more expensive competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards but this was not foolproof in our testing and was sometimes confused by power cords or other obstructions.

The vacuum cleaner has the capacity to suction up to 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to do the job. It also has a feature known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the house depending on how dirty the areas tend to be.

If you own a larger home, it is worth selecting a robot that comes with the option of cleaning zones or spots. This lets you instruct the robot on which part of your house needs to be cleaned with the help of an app or voice control. A stair mode can be beneficial if you have large furniture. Additionally the recharge and resume feature that lets your robot vacuum pick up right where it left off is ideal for busy families.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is more intelligent than its price would suggest. It is a great job cleaning, removing 55% of the debris that was found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using one pad that has a reciprocating motion that is cleaner than the other mop cleaners for robots we've examined. It's self-sufficient too, with a full-featured app and an auto-emptying, washable base.

The iRobot app is designed to guide you through the mapping process which collects information about your floorplan and any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules or to create the spot-cleaning. You can also use it to rank your most filthy areas for greater efficiency. The app also provides access to a host of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.

It is also able to reach corners and under furniture more easily because its shape is more rectangular. It features a powerful 8000 Pascal suction as well as intelligent combs to remove pet hair. You can also organize a spot-cleaner that will thoroughly clean the area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and less expensive alternative to iRobot Roomba. It's more appealing, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras look like cute eyes. It is capable of vacuuming, but it is more susceptible to get caught on low thresholds and is a bit more noisy than the other top robot vacuums we've tested. It also has an app that's not as intuitive and has a tiny base station that can't double as a bin for emptying.
