As with other top iRobot models (including the top pick) they employ smart mapping technology to design detailed floor plans and avoid household obstacles such as cords and furniture legs. The robots that vacuum and mop also come with Carpet Boost, a feature which boosts its power when it senses dirt on the carpet.

Both the Q5 as well as the Q7 Max Series get very high scores on our bare floor tests, and they're particularly adept in cleaning pet hair. However, they do have a few flaws, however, that prevent them from being our first option. One of them is that the Q5's navigation doesn't have AI-powered obstacle avoidance and is therefore prone to get caught up in shoes and socks and can't navigate tight spaces very well in our tests. Also, it doesn't have cameras that let it see the corners of a room.

It's still a great deal, especially if your office or home has a lot of unfinished floors and you want to save some money. It's also quiet and works while you are at work or in school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming that is available in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective in mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes that don't hold on very well and can't take on dried-on debris. The Q5 is self-emptying cradle, however. If you're in need of it mop, the mopping pad can be swapped for an awe-inspiring one in a matter of just a few seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact, sleek vacuum cleaner that also has the ability to mop floors. Its smart cleaning maps and fluid navigation make it simple to clean, and effective in dealing with larger particles like pet hair. It also features a powerful suction and self-emptying bin. It's the best robot vacuum that mops hoover for carpets but it's not as good as other hoovers in terms of deep cleaning.

This high-performance auto vacuum and mop and mop utilizes sensor technology that can keep away from obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the layout of your home over time to ensure more efficient cleaning. The app lets you modify zones and alter the cleaning schedule. It has a battery life that is comparable to other models.

Its obstacle detection was great, and it avoided fake dog turds, socks, shoes and bundles of cables.

It's a little more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but offers superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can clean the floor even after it vacuums. This is something we haven't seen before on other robotic vacuum/mop combinations.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

This mop and vacuum combination has a sleek, circular look that looks more like a regular Roomba model than the bulky units of the competition. It is one of our most attractive looking robot vacuums. iRobot's latest flagship model also happens to be its smartest and has advanced features like enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can autonomously wash mop pads).

It's the only robotic vacuum/mop that has a perfect 10 in our evaluations thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors, which include cameras, a structured lighting system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that is fully autonomously refill and empty its base station, and boasts an industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40 as with other iRobot products, is easy to operate. It has a simple mobile app interface that is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that it's a noisy unit that could be problematic if you run it in the morning before work or at night as you try to fall asleep.

It's also somewhat expensive, although it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra Both of which are equally powerful and better-looking. This is a two-in-one vacuum that's very capable, but it will cost you more and produce more noise.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with many advanced features to help you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaner like Ecovacs top-of-the-line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It features a multi-functional dock that can automatically empty the vacuum's bin and refills the water tank, and cleans and drys the mop pads.

The smart robot vacuum cleaners best employs the combination of LIDAR and structured light to draw out floor plans and spot obstacles, navigating more intelligently than some of its premium competitors. It also has a front mounted camera that can detect hazards in real-time but this wasn't 100% reliable in our tests and could be confused with obstructions or power cords.

Its vacuum has a suction capacity of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to finish the job. It also has "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the amount of time the vac works and alters the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home according to the amount of dirt they are.

For bigger homes it's worth looking for a model with zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean one particular area of your home by using the app or voice commands. If you have lots of furniture, a stair-mode is also useful. Also a recharge and resume function that lets your robot vacuum pick up right where it left off is ideal for busy families.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is more sophisticated than the price suggests. It is a great job cleaning, removing 55% of the debris that was found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses using a single pad and a reciprocating motion that cleans better that most of the robot mop cleaners that we've examined. It's also self-sufficient with a full-featured app and a self emptying base that is washable.

The well-designed iRobot app will guide you through an initial mapping run that gathers information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you mark on the map. You can use it to create cleaning schedules, plan an area for cleaning or to prioritize your most filthy rooms to improve performance. The app has a range of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.

Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums, which means it can reach corners and underneath furniture more easily. It has a powerful 8,000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs to remove pet hair. You can also create a spot-cleaner that thoroughly cleans an area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD offers a sleeker and less expensive alternative to iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive design, similar to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed to resemble cute eyes. It is capable of vacuuming but is more prone to get caught on low thresholds and is louder than the other top robot vacuums we've tested. It also has a less intuitive app and a small base station that doesn't double as a bin for emptying.
