The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored excellently in our tests on bare floors They are also adept in cleaning hair from dogs. However, they do have a few flaws however, which prevent them from being our first choice. One of the weaknesses of the Q5 is that its navigation system doesn't have AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's thus susceptible to become stuck on socks and shoes, and it couldn't navigate rooms with lots of people well during our tests. It doesn't also have a camera that can see around corners.

It's still a good value particularly if your home or office has a lot of unfinished flooring and you're looking to save money. It's also very quiet and can work while you're at work or going to school. The only thing it doesn't have that you don't get in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming of floors with no floor. It's also less effective when it comes to mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes that don't stick well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 comes with a self-emptying cradle, however. If you need to clean the mopping pad, it can be swapped for one that is wet in just a few seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact sleek and stylish vacuum cleaner that can also sweep floors. Its smart cleaning maps and fluid navigation make it simple to clean and effective in dealing with larger particles like pet hair. It also has self-emptying dustbins with powerful suction and support for virtual boundaries. It can even clean the floor after vacuuming it, something we haven't seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. IRobot Roomba X40

The robot vacuum and mop combination is sleek and has a circular design that looks much like a Roomba model than the bulky units of the competitors. It is one of our most attractive robot vacuums. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also its smartest. It features advanced features like enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that can wash mop pads on its own).

It's also the sole robot vacuum/mop to score an absolute 10 out of 10 in our testing. This is thanks to the combination of modern sensors, including a restructured light system, a camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can fully self-refill and empty its base station and it boasts industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40, like other iRobot products, is simple to operate. It comes with an intuitive mobile app interface that integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only real drawback is that it's a noisy unit, which can be an issue if you use it in the morning prior to work or at night as you attempt to sleep.

It's also a bit costly but not as much as the Ecovacs S8 MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally impressive and attractive. This is a dual-purpose auto vacuum and mop that's extremely powerful however, it will cost you more and produce more noise.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with a lot of advanced features that will let you forget about your chores. Like Ecovacs range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that takes charge of both vacuuming and mopping, with a multi-function dock that automatically emptys the vacuum's dust bin, fills its water tank, cleans and dry its mop pads.

The smart robot uses an array of LIDAR and structured light to map out floor plans and identify obstacles, navigating more intelligently than its top rivals. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time hazard detection but this was not foolproof in our testing and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its vacuum has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to complete the task. It also has a feature known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the power of the autonomous vacuum and adjusts cleaning frequency for various areas of the house based on how dirty the areas are.

If you own a larger home, it is worth selecting a model with a the option of cleaning zones or spots. This allows you to tell the robot which area of your home needs to be cleaned using the app or voice command. If you have a lot of furniture, a stair mode is also a good option. Also the recharge and resume function that allows your robot vacuum to pick up right where it left off is ideal for busy families.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is more intelligent than its price would suggest. It is a great job vacuuming, picking up 55% of the debris we found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses using a single pad and a reciprocating movement that is more efficient than most of the mop cleaners with robots that we've tested. It's also self-sufficient with a full-featured app and a self emptying, washable base.

The iRobot application is designed to help you navigate the mapping process which collects information about your floorplan and any "no go" areas you've marked on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules, or to set up an automatic spot-clean. You can also use it to rank your most filthy areas to improve performance. The app has a range of features, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping and advanced cleaning settings.

It is also able to reach corners and under furniture more easily because its shape is more rectangular. It is equipped with an impressive 8000 Pascal suction, as well as sophisticated combs that remove pet hair. You can also create a spot-clean that thoroughly cleans a particular area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD offers a sleeker, cheaper alternative to iRobot Roomba. It is more appealing in its style, much like Dolce & Gabbana.
