Upgrades can give you boost in certain statistics. Each upgrade boosts the level of an item by 3. Each upgrade also increases an unspecified substat.

The upgraded gear typically has a higher trade value regardless of whether it has low requirements (like the FB shield of the sorc) or very high stat variance (like eth titan weapons). The latter are less valuable from upgrading due to the need to roll for a perfect model.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader enables players to upgrade gear to a higher level by supplying the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of armor or weapon. The item used to upgrade the item will be consumed and can't be used again. Upgrades can also be used to create enhancements.

The upgrader can be found in every major city, and can be visited at any time to upgrade your gear. To keep your gear up-to-date it is recommended that you visit the upgrader every couple of weeks.

Upgrades can cost more based on the item level, however they'll always be less expensive than purchasing new equipment. Upgrades such as upgrading a Benthic chest up to ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. Buying a similar item will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used for weapon, armor, tool and accessory upgrades. They can be purchased through NPCs who sell upgrades to item owners for a variety of currencies. Each step costs 15 Flightstones and a few crests, with certain upgrades offering discounts to lower the cost of Flightstones or the crests used. Once an item has been upgraded to a certain amount it is able to be downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower cost.

Many locations offer item upgrader mod upgraders in addition to the main island and a few outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade item discount and a chance to obtain a new upgrade recipe. The upgrade discount increases as more items are upgraded. It can also be increased by having players complete certain achievements or complete quests.

Unlike Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II, there is no item upgrader available in the beginning of Icewind Dale. Instead the NPCs that can be used to upgrade require various methods, which is both an improvement and a drawback.

In Season 3, many new features were added to the upgrade system. After a player has earned an upgrade to a certain level of an item for a specific armor slot, upgrading further items to the same level will cost less, even in the event that they are part of another set of gear.

Crests

Players have a number of options for upgrading their gear in WoW. Flightstones are a currency that is available to everyone for upgrading. Crests are more specialized and are used for specific item upgrades level upgrades. Crests are a crucial part of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System that was introduced in version 10.1. They come in four ranks.

The first thing to remember is that crests can only be used on gear of a specific rank, and that every rank has different requirements for its upgrade path. Using these new currencies isn't that difficult, but the system does introduce some changes to the overall upgrade process. For instance, once an item level upgrade is at the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it won't need Flightstones to be upgraded. This is to allow players to upgrade their equipment to the highest ilvl possible on all their characters instead of relying only on seasonal loot.

It's also crucial to choose crests with care, since they are only used for one purpose. For instance it's Best item upgrader to use all of your Whelpling-rank crests on the best equipment available and then keep Drake and Wyrm crests to use for the next set of upgrades you're planning to create. This is especially true for items such as trinkets and rings that fill multiple slots. The account-wide discount will only be applicable if all slots on the character are filled with high-quality equipment.
