WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a boosts in specific stats. Each upgrade increases the level of an item by +3. Each upgrade also boosts a random substat.

Upgraded gear is generally more valuable, unless the item has a low requirement by nature (like FB sorc shields) or a high stat variance (like eth Titan weapons). Upgrades are not as valuable for those with lower requirements due to the requirement to roll the perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader enables players to upgrade gear to a higher item level by supplying the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied on any kind of weapon or armor. The item used to upgrade the item is discarded and cannot be used again. Upgrades can be used to create Enchantments.

The upgrader is located in all major cities, and is accessible anytime to upgrade your equipment. It is recommended that you visit the upgrader at least once every few weeks, to keep your equipment up-to-date.

Upgrades will cost more, based on the level of the item, but they will always be cheaper than buying new gear. For example upgrading a chest piece from Benthic to ilvl 385 will cost 20 recycle points while purchasing the same item from another player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items which can be used to level up weapons, tools, armor, and accessories. They can be purchased from item upgraders NPCs in a variety of currencies. They can also find them in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be applied to any tool, weapon, or armor. The button will display the preview of an item's next upgrade level, in the event that there are enough materials.

The cost of upgrading varies based on the slot of the item and the current level of the item upgrades. For instance weapons are more expensive than bracers, or gloves. Each step costs 15 Flightstones and a variety of crests, with certain upgrades having a discount to reduce the cost of the Flightstones or the crests used. Once an item has been upgraded to a certain amount it is able to be downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower cost.

Upgraders for items are available at many locations on the main island, as well as a few outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade coupon as well as the possibility of getting a new recipe. The upgrade discount increases depending on the amount of items being upgraded. It can also be boosted by having players complete some specific achievements or quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an Best item upgrader upgrader at beginning, unlike Cromwell from Baldur's Gate II. Instead, the NPCs that are available to help with upgrades require several methods, which is both an improvement but also a drawback.

In Season 3, the upgrade system has been altered a bit, with some new features added. Once the player has upgraded to a certain item level Upgrade level for an armor slot, upgrading other items to the same item level, will cost less. The amount of Valorstones needed for upgrades is decreased, and the discount is available across all accounts. Similarly, the amount of Harbinger Crests needed to upgrade is also reduced and is not available until players reach certain milestones in their achievement.

Crests

When upgrading gear in WoW players have a few options. Flightstones are an item that is available to all players for upgrading. Crests are more special and are utilized during specific item level upgrades. Crests are the main component of the Dragonflight gear progression system, which was introduced in 10.1 and are available in four ranks.

First, you should know that crests are only available for gear of a certain rank. Each rank comes with distinct upgrade paths. The easiest and most straightforward upgrade is 15 crests. The most complex upgrade could require as much as 20 crests, depending on the type of gear being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through working through content that is of the appropriate level, whether that involves walking around and performing outdoor activities for gear of lower tiers, raids or dungeons of all difficulties for higher-tier items or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses or dungeons to obtain endgame gear. These crests can be exchanged with an upgrader, such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn in Valdrakken for the appropriate upgrade steps and pathways.

Using these new currencies isn't too complicated however, the system will introduce a few changes to the overall upgrade process. For instance, once an item is at the highest level of upgrade items for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it won't need Flightstones to be upgraded. This change allows players to upgrade their equipment to the highest possible level on all of their characters rather than relying on seasonal loot.

It's also important to use crests in a wise manner, as they only have one use. For instance, it's a good idea utilize all of your Whelpling rank crests on the top equipment you have and then save Drake and Wyrm crests for the next batch of upgrades you're planning to make. This is particularly relevant for items like trinkets and rings that fill multiple slots. The discount for the entire account is only applicable when all slots on the character are filled with top-quality equipment.
