What is an Upgrade item upgrading in Genshin Impact?

Upgrade items are special items that help certain Pokemon develop. They can be obtained by spinning Pokestop discs, or as rewards for events that are related to evolution.

They can be added to weapons, armors, trinkets and gathering tools to increase stats or effects. Some upgrades have a cosmetic effect.

Upgrade components

Upgrade components can be inserted into weapons, armor and trinkets to provide an added bonus or effect while the equipment is being utilized. They can be bought from vendors, looted or obtained as rewards, or even dropped. Upgrade components must be higher leveled than the item Upgrader Kit they are added to. Most require that the item has an upgrade slot. Upgrade components can be substituted with other upgrade components, excluding for glyphs and inscriptions which are only able to be removed or added.

Infusions, gems, and enrichments are among the most common upgrade components. Gems are upgrade components that can be inserted in any equipment, and they provide lesser bonuses than other upgrade components. Infusions and enhancements can only be used on non-amulet gear and on certain legendary equipment. They can be recovered from the equipment they're within by using an Upgrade Extraction Device, or by salvaging them using the Black Lion Salvage Kit or an Ascended Salvage Tool.

Other upgrade items such as glyphs or inscriptions can be removed or added to gather tools. They can offer a variety of bonus effects that can be used to increase the speed of gathering or adding additional materials. Inscriptions can also modify the name of an item, for instance changing the name of a sword to 'Fiery Sword' by adding an Sword Pommel Of Fortitude inscription, or by adding the Rune of Minor Vigor suffix to make it 'Canthan Armor of Minor Vigor'.

Glyphs

You should begin farming rare glyphs as soon as you can. They can be found in World Tier 3 Dungeons as well as Nightmare Dungeons and Helltides.
