Robots that vacuum and mop provide the convenience of cleaning dry debris (dust dirt) and wet messes (spills, stains) in one go without having to swap out devices. They can also reduce space in comparison to two separate units, especially in smaller living areas.

A good combination bot must be able to navigate well and have excellent obstacle avoidance. Look for models that have docks that let them automatically empty their bins, fill their water tanks, and wash the mopping pads.

1. Eufy S1 Pro

It's one of the easiest robots to set up that we've tested. Unpacking the S1 Pro is simple, and an easy-to-follow guide will have you up and running with a clean, full dust bag, floor solution for hard floors and water tank in no time at all.

The S1 Pro is an incredibly powerful machine that can vacuum and mop well. The mops are spun at a high rate and employ 2.2 pounds (1kg of force) to quickly get rid of pet hair, dirt and sticky dried spills. The automatic vacuum cleaner and mop has four power modes, a variety of brushes and attachments and a user-friendly app that lets you select the kind of cleaning you'd like for each room.

You can, for example request the robot to clean the kitchen and the living room thoroughly, but leave the spare bedroom alone. The S1 Pro's front collision sensors and smart navigation technology are also excellent as the robot is able to detect tiny obstacles that other models have difficulty overcoming. Its only drawback is that it tends to crash into walls and objects at a high speed, but just a glance at the cleaning history within the app will show you exactly what it's doing, where it's going, and which obstacles it's avoided.

A large LCD screen on the docking station informs you when maintenance jobs are required like emptying the debris tray, and rinsing its dirty water tank. It's also able to mix detergent automatically into the water tank with a 600ml bottle of Eufy's own solution.

Both the S1 Pro mop and autonomous vacuum have a long run time. The mop is able to run for 184 mins in Quiet Mode, and the vacuum can last for 136 minutes in standard mode, before needing to recharge or returning back to the base. And you can see the complete cleaning details within the app, which is well laid out and easily understood although we would like to be able to distinguish between a vacuum and a vacuum/mop clean when looking at a clean area in the cleaning history.

2. Roborock S8 Pro Ultra

The Roborock S8 Pro Ultra, the latest version of Roborock's most popular robot mop and vacuum, is the most recent version. It's not like the model from last year this one has an agitator that doubles in its mopping pad, which significantly improves its carpet cleaning abilities. The S8 Pro Ultra also has an improved suction capacity, allowing it to pull up fine hairs and other debris that other robotic cleaners may overlook.

This Roborock model, like the other two I tried is equipped with infrared and 3D obstacle avoidance technology to help it get around obstacles like walls, furniture and other obstacles. But the S8 Pro Ultra takes things a step further by adding a dual camera which can detect objects and decide whether they are a wall or another surface. It then can automatically alter its path and clean them without skipping a beat.

This is the most expensive of the three models I've examined, but it's also the most loaded with features. Its sleek, angular style is attractive and it only has three physical buttons that include the power button that also resumes cleaning; a mop-only button that doubles as a child lock; and a home button that can send the robot back to its dock. The hinged lid can be opened to reveal a 350ml dustbin as well as a 200ml of water tank. The water tank is self-emptying and the bin auto-filling.

The only issue I encountered to this model was that the VibraRise mop pads mount isn't movable. While you can replace the mopping cloth (if necessary), it's a pain to take off the mount itself to wash it manually. I've found that any plush carpet that the robot vacuum that mops touches will come into contact with the Velcro-like fastener system on the mount, which could cause abrasions.

The S8 Pro Ultra is equipped with a variety of intelligent features that include support for Google Home and Amazon Alexa. The Roborock app allows you to manage and set up these smart features. It also includes maps and advanced mopping options. The app also allows you to schedule cleanings, track the battery life and maintain your components. You'll need to jump through a series of steps to activate voice control on this model. It's a shame considering the performance otherwise.

3. Dreame X40

The side brush automatically tilts down when it detects wet spots. This is a nice feature that enables the X40 to avoid causing damage to floors through repeated back-and-forth movements.

Contrary to other robots which only focus on one task, the X40 is capable of performing mopping and vacuuming at the same time or separately. It can be programmed to mop only the hard floors and skip carpeted areas, or reverse the process. It can be controlled by the Dreame App or Alexa, Siri, or Google Home to ensure that voice-controlled operations are smooth and easy.

The app is easy to use and intuitive The X40 has many smart features that are easy to set up. Users can program the X40 to clean at specific times, adjust suction power and mode, view floor plans and mapping, and manage mopping settings. The X40 can also monitor its progress and inform you when it's finished.

The X40 is easy to maintain and comes with numerous convenient features, making it a great option for busy families. The docking station will automatically empty the dustbin and wash the mop pads, then refill them with cleaning solution and fresh water. It can also detect when the mop pad is filled and alert you before it gets overflowing, reducing the requirement for manual maintenance.

4. L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra robot is one of the most expensive models on the market. However, it has many characteristics that make it stand out. Its mops have a new feature called Smart DuoScrub that uses two high-speed mops to clean floors more thoroughly than the standard method, and it has an impressive suction power of 7,000Pa. This is higher than the Roborock S8 Pro Ultra and Ecovacs Deebots T20 Omni. It can also clean pet hair, dirt particles and pick up spills and dirt-stained spots.

The mops are cleaned and dried at the base station each time they are used. This is a great feature as it stops the build-up of mould and unpleasant odours in storage, and also makes the mop system more efficient. It's a system that we've yet to see on other robot vacuum cleaners uk vacuums and mop models, and it could be a great way of keeping your home hygienic for longer.

There's a plethora of settings available that include the ability to schedule cleaning and adjust a variety of preferences. These settings can be adjusted via the app, or via buttons on the device itself. The app is easy to use and provides a variety of options to customize the cleaning process, and there are numerous functions that other robots don't have - such as the Clean Genius mode that automatically increases suction power when it detects dust particles instead of using the manual setting.

The L20 Ultra is also one of the most fashionable robots we've seen in the market, sporting a white and metallic design that is elegant and stylish. It's heavier than some of the other two-in-one robots in this list, at 4kg however it's not overly heavy, and it feels sturdy and well-built. The mopping is also well-designed, and the double rotating mops work well on hard floors and in corners. The MopExtend feature allows them to reach even 2mm below the baseboards.
