Both robots excel at picking up surface debris off carpets and hard floors and they're very adept in maneuvering around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software creates smart maps of your home that aid the i3+ EVO navigate and clean in a manner that maximizes efficiency. The i3+ does not feature obstacle avoidance features like the i7+ or any other top-rated robots we have test. It could be stuck on power cords or socks and have difficulty navigating between surfaces, such as hardwood and rug.

iRobot suggests that you clean the area in which the i3+ EVO vacuums prior to using it. This includes getting rid of any toys or other items it might come across. It is also recommended to keep the dustbin and filters clear to avoid becoming clogged. When the i3+ EVO's internal bin is empty or the battery is not fully charged, it returns to the docking station and emptys the dirt into the docking station’s external dustbin. Then it continues cleaning from where it began. The i3+ EVO's batteries last for about an hour and a half continuous use. It takes about three hours to fully recharge.

2. Roomba from iRobot

The iRobot i7+ is the top model in iRobot's flagship line and is packed with the latest features. It has self-charging and self-navigating, but the most important feature is the self-emptying bin. This removes the need for routine maintenance.

The Roomba i7+ is able to remember up to 10 best automatic floor cleaner plans and their names using Imprint Smart Mapping, a system that allows it to identify rooms to clean them more efficiently. It also integrates with the iRobot Home app to let you schedule cleaning jobs and control your robot cleaner using voice or via the app.

The i7+ is faster and more maneuverable in our tests compared to the eufy RoboVac G30. It also picked up large pet hair pieces from all surfaces, including carpeting. Its greatest advantage over the Eufy is its self-emptying bin which eliminates major sources of maintenance and lowers the cost of recurring maintenance.

We were also impressed with the i7+'s compatibility Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant AI services. We used these services to instruct the robot to start or stop cleaning sessions and also to move around the room, and to vacuum a particular area. The process of connecting the i7+ to these services was simple and straightforward through the iRobot Home app. We were able, once connected, to give voice commands to the i7+ like "Hey Alexa vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home App also offers options for managing i7+ settings and monitoring performance.

3. Dyson Cyclone V10

In a world filled with vacuums with cords that feel like minivans or buses, this tiny Dyson model feels like an old-fashioned sports car. It's got the power and features to replace a stand-up vacuum for the majority of households and can fit nicely on the table for a coffee or the bookshelf, where you can wave it around like a magic tool.

The V10 is powered by a 7-cell, energy-dense lithium-ion battery which produces fade-free power for 60 minutes. The sophisticated whole-machine filter system traps allergens, then releases cleaner air into your home. Its specialized head uses stiff nylon bristles to penetrate into carpets and pick up large crumbs or fine dust. It comes with three suction modes to suit the task that is being completed. It quickly switches from handheld vacuum to floor vacuum and back.

This model comes with a dock which charges the Dyson to 100% in 3.5 hours. It also gives easy access to 2 attachments and an wand. This is a major improvement over earlier Dysons which require a long charge and are difficult to store.

The biggest issue with the V10 is its limited run time. Its claims on the market that it can last up to 60 minutes of run time are misleading, as CR's testing shows. This is a common, not exceptional, battery-powered vacuum's run time. It's still enough time to vacuum the majority of a typical-sized home however, it's not enough to clean every spot (though an additional run-through often does the trick). That's not to say this model doesn't have its advantages: It's lighter and agile than older cordless Dysons and its vacuuming performance is significantly better on carpets with low pile.

4. iRobot Roomba 694"

The 694 is a basic robotic vacuum that's a great choice for those who don't have a lot of money to spend on an expensive robot. It's capable of sucking up a variety of types of debris and sizes during our tests, and often passes over the same areas multiple times to give a thorough clean. Its flat front side helps it to reach into corners and along the walls' edges which is a nice addition.

Its intelligent vacuum cleaner navigation system makes use of iAdapt technology to avoid obstacles and guide you through your home. It's not equipped with the mapping capabilities of more advanced models, including our top picks, the i3+EVO and the j7+ Series. As a result, it is sometimes stuck on things like phone cords or furniture that isn't as sturdy, and often is power-depleted before making it back to its base.

In our tests, the Jet Bot AI+ performed well on hard floors, and cleaned up 86% of dog hair (on carpet). It didn't do very well in avoiding taller items like cords or socks. This was disappointing. It's also more expensive than some of the other models we've tested and could be a deal-breaker for some shoppers.

The smart vacuum comes with an onboard camera that can be accessed through the app. You can also set up a live streaming from the robot's cleaning station. This feature lets you to monitor your children or pets when you're away. The dustbin and filter can be cleaned to make cleanup quick and easy. The Jet Bot AI+ also has a clean station that's self-emptying, which helps keep the cheap robot vacuum cleaner's dustbin clean and optimizes suction power for each cleaning run.
