Robots that vacuum and mop provide the convenience of cleaning dry debris (dust dirt, grit) and wet messes (spills or staining) in one go without having to swap out devices. They also can save space compared to two separate units, especially in smaller living spaces.

A good robot vacuum combination bot will offer excellent navigation and obstacles avoidance. Look for models that have docks that allow them to automatically empty their bins, replenish their water tanks, and wash the mopping pads.

1. Eufy S1 Pro

It has plenty to offer at a modest price and is among the easiest robots we've tested to install. Unpacking the S1 Pro is simple, and the quick-start guide will get you up and running with a clean and complete dust bag, hard floor solution and water tank in no time.

The S1 Pro is an incredibly powerful machine that can mop and vacuum well. The mops are spun at high speed and use 2.2 pounds (1kg of force) to quickly remove dirt, pet hair and sticky dried spills. The vacuum cleaner has four power settings, a variety of brushes and attachments as well as an intuitive app that lets you choose the type of cleaning you'd like for each room.

For instance, you can opt for the robot to clean up the living and kitchen areas but take it easy in the spare bedroom. The S1 Pro's front collision sensors and its smart navigation technology are superb as the robot is capable of detecting small obstacles that other models have difficulty overcoming. Its only minor issue is that it can hit objects and walls at full speed - but just a glance at the history of cleaning within the app will show you exactly what it's doing, where it's going and what obstacles it's avoided.

A large LCD screen on the docking station shows the maintenance tasks that are required including emptying the debris tray and rinsing its dirty water tank. It's also capable of mixing detergent automatically into the water tank, by using a 600ml bottle filled with the eufy's solution.

Both the S1 Pro mop and vacuum come with a long-running time. The mop can run for 184 minutes in Quiet Mode. The vacuum can last 136 mins in normal mode, before needing to recharge or returning back to the base. The app is easy to use and intuitive, allowing you to look at all the details of the cleaning.

2. Roborock S8 Pro Ultra

The Roborock S8 Pro Ultra is the latest version of the company's flagship robot vacuum and mop. The model this year has an agitator that doubles as its mopping pad. This increases the carpet cleaning capabilities of this model. The S8 Pro Ultra has an enhanced suction power that allows it to pick up smaller hairs and other particles other robotic cleaners may miss.

As with the other two Roborock models I've tried it also has a 3D obstacle avoidance and infrared technology which can help to avoid furniture, walls and other obstacles. But the S8 Pro Ultra takes things one step further by adding a dual camera which can detect objects and determine whether they're an object that is a wall or a different surface. It then can automatically alter its path and clean around the objects without a pause.

This is the most expensive of the three models I've examined, but it's also feature-packed. Its sleek and angular design is striking and comes with three buttons that are physically accessible. The power button, which also restarts the cleaning, a mop button that doubles up as a child-lock, and a home-button to bring the best robot vacuum and mop to its dock. The hinged lid can be lifted to reveal a 350ml dust bin and 200ml water tank. The water tank self-empties and the bin is auto-filling.

The only issue I have discovered with this model is that the VibraRise mop pad mount is not removable. You can replace the mopping cloth when required, but it's not easy to remove the mount for washing manually. I've found that any plush carpet the robot crosses will come into contact with the rough Velcro-like fastener mechanism on the mount, and that can cause abrasions.

The S8 Pro Ultra is equipped with a variety of clever features that include support for Google Home and Amazon Alexa. The Roborock app allows you to manage and configure these advanced features. It also has maps and advanced mopping options. The app lets you plan cleanings and monitor the battery's life. However, you'll have to go through a few hoops in order to allow voice control with this model which is a pity considering how well it performs otherwise.

3. Dreame X40

The Dreame X40 is an industry-leading robot vacuum and mop that has outstanding suction power, advanced mowing capabilities, and a variety of innovative features. Its intelligent design allows you to customize and efficiently clean while saving time.

The app is easy to use and understand, and the X40 is equipped with many clever features that are simple to configure. Users can program the X40 to clean at specific times. It is also possible to alter suction power, alter modes, view floor plans and maps, and manage mopping setting. The X40 will also track its progress, and alert you when it is finished.

The X40 is easy to maintain and comes with many convenient features that make it an excellent choice for busy families. The docking station automatically empty the trash bin into a 3.2 L bin, washes the mop pads, and refills them with fresh water and cleaning solution. It can also detect whether the mop pad has reached its maximum capacity and alert you to the situation before it overflows.

4. L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra robot is one of the most expensive models on the market. It does have a number of features that make it stand out. Smart DuoScrub, a new feature of its mop, utilizes two mop heads with high-speed motors to scrub floors more thoroughly. It also has a suction force of 7,000Pa. This is significantly higher than that of the Roborock S8 Pro Ultra or Ecovacs Deebot T20 Omni, and it can clean pet hair and small dirt particles - as well as picking up spills and wet spots.

Its mops are also cleaned and dried inside the base station after every use. This is a great feature as it keeps mould and unpleasant odours from building up in the storage. It also makes the mop system more efficient. This is a feature we haven't yet seen on other robot vacuum cleaners reviews vacuums and mop models and could be a good method to keep your home cleaner for longer.

There are plenty of options, including the option to schedule cleanings and change preferences. The app lets you define these preferences, or make use of the buttons on the device itself. The app is simple to use and offers many options for customising the cleaning routine, and there are numerous functions that other robots don't include, such as the Clean Genius mode that automatically increases suction power whenever it detects dust particles, rather than using an individual setting.

The L20 Ultra has a stylish design with a metallic-white-white finish that looks sophisticated and classy. It's a bit heavier than the other two-in-one robots in this list - at around 4kg - but it's not obscenely heavy either, and it is sturdy and well-built. The mopping is also well-designed, and the double rotating mop works well on hard floors and in corners. The MopExtend feature allows them to extend up to 2mm below the baseboards.
