However, they do have some flaws that prevent them from being our top pick. For one, the Q5's navigation system doesn't feature AI-powered obstacle avoidance technology and is therefore prone to become entangled in shoes and socks and can't navigate tight spaces very well in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that would let it see the corners of a room.

It's still a good deal for those whose office or home has a lot of unfinished floors and you want to save money. Plus, it's very quiet and can work while you're at work or going to school. The only thing it's missing that you can't find in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on floors that aren't clean. It's also less effective in mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes that don't stick well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 is self-emptying cradle however. And, if you have to change the mopping pad for dry ones in a matter of minutes.

You can modify its cleaning schedule and set up zones with the well-designed app. It has a battery life that is similar to other models.

This mop and vacuum combination is sleek and has a circular design that looks more like the regular Roomba unit than the boxy models from the competitors. It's among our most attractive robot vacuums. The latest model from iRobot happens to be its smartest and has advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can autonomously wash mop pads).

It's also the only robot vacuum/mop that scored a perfect 10 out of 10 in our tests. This is due to a combination high-tech sensors, including a structured lighting system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation autonomously. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mop mops.

The X40 as with other iRobot products, is simple to operate. It comes with a simple mobile application interface and integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only drawback is that the X40 is still a loud unit. This could be a concern in the mornings prior to work or in the evening when you are trying to fall asleep.

It's also quite expensive but not as expensive as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally capable and better looking. If you're willing with a little more noise and some extra cost this is a powerful two-in-one that will delight most.

The smart robot makes use of LIDAR and structured lighting to create floorplans and identify obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its top competitors. It also has a front-mounted camera to detect hazards in real-time, although this wasn't quite foolproof in our testing and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.

The vacuum cleaner has the capacity to suction up to 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also has an attribute called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the vacuum's power and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas in the house based on how dirty those areas are.

If you have a larger home, it is worth choosing a model that has spot or zone cleaning mode. This lets you tell the robot which area of your home must be cleaned by using the app or voice control. A stairway mode is useful if you own a large furniture. Finally, a recharge and resume function that allows your robot vacuum to take over exactly where it left off is ideal for busy families.

It's also extremely self-sufficient, with a full-featured app and a self emptying, washable base.

The iRobot application is designed to help you navigate a mapping run that collects data on your floorplan, as well as any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map. The app also provides access to a host of features like seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.
