Robots that vacuum and mop offer the convenience of removing dry debris (dust dirt) and wet messes (spills and stains) in one go without having to swap out devices. They also can save space when compared to two separate units, especially in smaller living spaces.

A good combination bot must be able to navigate well and have excellent obstacles avoidance. Find models that automatically empty their bin and fill up their water tank and machine-wash their mopping pads with an appropriate dock.

1. Eufy S1 Pro

It's one of the simplest robots to install that we've tested. Unpacking is easy and the quick-start guide can get you up and running in no time with a full dust bag, water tank and hard floor solution.

The S1 Pro is a powerful little machine that mops up a storm and also vacuums well. The mops spin at high speeds and exert 2.2 pounds (1kg) of force, which makes short work of dirt, pet hair, and dried sticky spills. The vacuum has four power modes, a selection of brushes and attachments, and a user-friendly application that lets you choose the type of cleaning you'd like for each room.

For instance, you can, ask the robot to clean the kitchen and the living room thoroughly, but leave the bedroom in its own space. The S1 Pro's front colision sensors and smart navigation tech are also excellent, with the robot being able to detect tiny obstacles that other models have difficulty overcoming. Its only issue is that it tends to crash into walls and objects at a high speed. The Roborock S8 Pro Ultra, the most recent version of Roborock's flagship robot vacuum and mop is the newest version. This year's model has a double agitator built into its mopping pad. This increases the carpet cleaning capabilities of this model. The S8 Pro Ultra also has an improved suction capacity, allowing it to pull up small hairs and other particles that other robotic hoovers cleaners might overlook.

This Roborock model, like the other two I tested is equipped with infrared and 3D obstacle avoidance technology to help it overcome obstacles like furniture, walls and other obstacles. The S8 Pro Ultra goes one step further and incorporates two cameras that can recognize objects, determining if they're walls or other surfaces. It can then change its course in a way that is automatic vacuum and mop and clean around the objects, without missing a step.

It's the most expensive of the three models I've reviewed but it's also the most feature-packed. Its sleek, angular design is attractive and it only has three physical buttons that include the power button which can also restart cleaning; a mop button that doubles as a child lock; and a home button that can bring the robot back to its dock. The hinged lid can be opened to reveal a 350ml trash bin and 200ml water tank. The water tank is automatically filled and the bin fills up automatically.

The only downside I've found with this model is that the VibraRise mop pad mount is not removable. You can replace the mopping cloth when required, but it's not easy to take the mount off for washing manually. I've observed that any soft carpet the robot vacuum cleaners best crosses will come into contact with the rough Velcro-like fastener system on the mount, which could cause scratches.

The S8 Pro Ultra is equipped with a range of clever features including support for Google Home and Amazon Alexa. The Roborock app lets you manage and set up these features. You'll have to go through some hoops to activate voice control on this model. This is a shame considering the performance otherwise.

3. Dreame X40

Contrary to other robots, which are limited to one task, the X40 can mop and vacuum simultaneously. It can also be programmed to eliminate areas with carpet and mop only hard floors, and reverse the process. It can be controlled by the Dreame App or Alexa, Siri, or Google Home to ensure smooth voice-controlled operation.

The app is intuitive and easy to use, and the X40's smart features are simple to set up. Users can program the X40 for cleaning at specific times. It is also possible to alter suction power, change modes, look at floor plans and maps, and manage mopping setting. The X40 can also track its progress and notify you when it's done.

The X40 is easy-to-maintain and offers many convenient features, making it a perfect option for busy families. Its docking station automatically empties the dustbin into a large 3.2 L bin, washes mop pads and refills them with clean water and cleaning solution. It can also detect when the mop pad is full and alert you before it overflows, thus reducing the requirement for manual maintenance.

4. L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra robot is one of the most expensive models available. However, it has many features that make it stand out. The mops are equipped with a new feature called Smart DuoScrub. It utilizes two mops that are high-speed to scrub floors more thoroughly than the traditional method, and it comes with a high maximum suction power of 7,000Pa. This is much higher than that of the Roborock S8 Pro Ultra or Ecovacs Deebot T20 Omni and can clean pet hair and smaller dirt particles - as well as picking up spills and wet spots.

Its mops are also cleaned and dried inside the base station after every use. This is a great feature because it prevents the growth of odours and mould in the storage area, and it also makes the mop system more efficient. The L20 Ultra is also one of the most elegant robots we've seen on market, with a white and metallic design that looks elegant and classy. It's a bit heavier at 4kg than the other robots listed on this list, but it's still not too heavy. It feels solid and well-built. The mopping system is also well designed, and the double rotating mop works well on hard floors or in corners. The MopExtend feature allows them to reach even 2mm below the baseboards.
