Like other premium iRobots (including the most powerful model), they use intelligent mapping to design precise floorplans and avoid household obstacles such as cords and furniture legs. The robots also have Carpet Boost, a feature that boosts its power when it detects dirt on the carpet.

Both the Q5 and Q7 Max Series get very good scores in our floor tests that test for bare floors They're also particularly adept in removing pet hair. There are some issues, however, that prevent them from being our top choice. One of the flaws of the Q5 is that its navigation system doesn't feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's therefore prone to become stuck on shoes and socks, and it couldn't navigate densely packed rooms very efficiently during our tests. It doesn't also have a camera that can see around corners.

Still, it's very good for those who want to save money on an iRobot Roomba and you have a bare-floored home or office. It's also extremely quiet and can be used when you're at work or in school. It lacks the edge-to-edge bare floor vacuuming that is available in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective when it comes to mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes that don't stick well and isn't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 comes with a self-emptying cradle that can be emptied by itself. If you need to, the mopping pad can be replaced with an awe-inspiring one in a matter of minutes.

2. iRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact elegant vacuum cleaner that also has the ability to sweep floors. Its quick navigation and smart cleaning maps make it quick to clean and effective at tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also features a self-emptying bin, powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, although it's not as effective as some rivals in deep cleaning.

This high-performing combination vacuum and mop utilizes advanced sensors to stay clear of obstacles and pet waste, and it learns your home's layout over time for more efficient cleaning. You can modify its cleaning schedule and set up zones with the well-designed app. Its battery life is average compared to other models.

You can tell the X30 Ultra to remove its mop and extend them when in a carpeted room, which helps prevent cross-contamination. Its flex arm can also be used to reach under low-lying furnishings and along baseboards. It's not as efficient on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

It's a little more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, but it has superior suction, a dustbin on board that automatically fills up its base, and also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It is able to clean floors even after it vacuums. This is a feature that we haven't seen before on other robot mop vacuum/mop combination.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

The robot vacuum and mop combination features a sleek, circular design that appears much like a Roomba model than the bulky units of the rivals. It is one of our most attractive looking robot vacuums. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also among its most advanced. It has advanced features such as Enhanced Dirt Detection as well as future compatibility (another company’s robot that can wash mop pads autonomously).

It's also the only robot vacuum/mop to score an absolute 10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is thanks to a combination modern sensors, including a restructured light system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that is fully autonomously refill and empty its base station, and it has an its own self-cleaning mop pads.

As with other iRobot models, the X40 is easy to use, offering an easy mobile app interface, and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only drawback is that the X40 still a loud unit. This can be a problem in mornings before work or during the night when you are trying to fall asleep.

It's also quite expensive, but it's not as pricey as the Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are similarly capable and more attractive. This is a dual-purpose vacuum that's extremely powerful, but it's more expensive and produce more noise.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with many advanced features that will let you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaner that is similar to Ecovacs the top of the line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It features a multi-functional dock that can automatically empty the vacuum's bin and refills the water tank, as well as washes and drys the mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of LIDAR and structured lighting to map out floorplans and identify obstacles. It is more efficient in its navigation than its top competitors. It also has a front mounted camera for real-time hazards detection however this was not 100% reliable in our tests and could be confused with obstructions or power cords.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is a more efficient cleaner than you might think from its price. It is a great job vacuuming, removing 55% of debris in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses using only one pad and a reciprocating movement that is more efficient than most mop cleaners for robots that we've tested. It's also self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app as well as an auto-emptying, washable base.

The iRobot application is designed to guide you through a mapping run, which gathers information on your floorplan and any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, or to create a spot-clean. It can also be used to it to prioritize your dirtiest areas to improve performance.
