I first needed to verify that all doors were locked with the key, and then I had press and hold the large button for around 20 seconds. After pressing the large button, I let it go and then hit the smaller button to lock the door. The LED is now constantly lit.

I then added the ignition key and then turned it to accessory position without turning on the engine. Then, I put the key in front of the receiver and hit both the large plip and small plip buttons on the remote. The Plip is now working. This should work if your key fob is not responding to the remote.
