Robots that clean and vacuum offer the convenience of cleaning both dry debris and wet mess in one time without the need to switch devices. They also can save space compared to two separate units, especially in smaller living spaces.

A good combination bot will have excellent navigation and obstacles avoidance. Look for models that have docks that let them automatically empty their bins, replenish their water tanks, and wash the mopping pads.

It's among the easiest robots to set up that we've ever tested. Unpacking is easy and the quick-start manual can get you running in no time. It comes with a full dust bag, water tank, and hard floor solution.

The S1 Pro is an incredibly powerful machine that can vacuum and mop well. Its mops spin at high speeds and exert 2.2 pounds (1kg) of force, allowing for quick removal of dirt, pet hair, and dried sticky spills. The vacuum cleaner has four power settings, a range of brushes and attachments, and an intuitive app which lets you select the type of cleaning you want for each room.

You can, for example request the robot to clean the kitchen and the living room thoroughly but leave the spare bedroom alone. The S1 Pro has excellent front collision sensors as well as smart navigation technology. It is able to recognize small obstacles that other models cannot. The only drawback is that the robot vacuum cleaner best tends to crash into objects and walls at full speed. However an inspection of the history of cleaning in the app will tell you exactly what the robot done, where it is traveling, and what obstacles he has run into or avoided.

2. Roborock S8 Pro Ultra

The Roborock S8 Pro Ultra is the latest version of the company's flagship robot mop and vacuum. The model of this year features a double agitator built into its mopping pad. This enhances the carpet cleaning capabilities of this model. The S8 Pro Ultra also has improved suction power, allowing it to pick up small hairs and other debris that other robotic cleaners may be unable to pick up.

As with the other two Roborock models I've tested it also has a 3D obstacle avoidance and infrared technology to helps it avoid walls, furniture and other obstacles. The S8 Pro Ultra goes one step further and includes two cameras that can recognize objects, and determine if they are walls or other surfaces. It then can alter its course in a way that is automatic and clean around them without missing a step.

It's the most expensive of the three models I've examined, but it's also packed with features. Its sleek, angular design is striking and only has three physical buttons. The power button, which restarts the cleaning, a mop button that doubles as a child-lock, and a home-button to send the robot to its dock. The hinged lid can be opened to reveal a 350ml dustbin as well as a 200ml of water tank. The water tank automatically empties and the bin automatically refills.

The only downside I've discovered with this model is that its VibraRise mop pad mount isn't movable. You can replace the mopping cloth if required, but it's a challenge to remove the mount for washing manually. I've observed that any soft carpet that the robot touches will be in contact with the rough Velcro-like fastener mechanism on the mount, which could cause scratches.

The S8 Pro Ultra has a number of smart capabilities, including support for Google Home, Amazon Alexa and Siri. The Roborock app is where you can manage and set up these features. It also includes maps and advanced mopping options. The app allows you to schedule cleanings and monitor the battery's lifespan. However, you'll have to go through a few hurdles to allow voice control with this model which is a pity considering the quality of its performance.

3. Dreame X40

4. L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra robot is one of the most expensive models on the market. It has many characteristics that make it stand out. The mops are equipped with a new feature called Smart DuoScrub. This makes use of two mops with high-speed motors to clean floors more thoroughly than the traditional method, and it has a high maximum suction power of 7,000Pa. This is higher than Roborock S8 Pro Ultra and Ecovacs Deebots T20 Omni. It can also clean pet hair, small dirt particles, and clean up spills and dirt-stained spots.

Its mops are also dried and cleaned inside the base station after each use. This is a great feature as it stops the build-up of odours and mould in storage, and also makes the mop system a lot more efficient.
