Both the Q5 and the Q7 Max Series get very excellent scores in our bare floor tests, and they're particularly adept in cleaning pet hair. However, they have some flaws that prevent them from being our top choice. One of the Q5's shortcomings is that its navigation system doesn't feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's thus susceptible to become stuck on shoes and socks and couldn't navigate through rooms with a lot of people well during our tests. It also doesn't come with a camera to look around corners.

Still, it's very good, especially if you want to save money on a iRobot Roomba and you have a mostly bare-floor home or office. It's also very quiet and operates when you're at work or school. It lacks the edge-to-edge bare floor vacuuming that is offered in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective at mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying dock, though. If you're in need of it clean the mopping pad, it can be changed for a wet one in just a few seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact elegant vacuum cleaner that also has the ability to sweep floors. Its intelligent cleaning maps and quick navigation make it easy to clean and effective in dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It also has a powerful suction and self-emptying bin. It's the best rated robot vacuum robotic hoover for carpets, but it's not as good as other hoovers in terms of deep cleaning.

This high-performing mop and vacuum combination uses advanced sensor technology to avoid obstacles and pet waste, and it also learns your home's layout over time to provide more efficient cleaning. You can change the schedule of cleaning and even customize zones using the app that is well-designed. It has a battery lifespan that is comparable to other models.

You can tell the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and extend them when in a room with carpet to prevent cross-contamination. Its flex arm is also ideal for getting under low-lying furniture and along baseboards. It doesn't perform as well on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

In the course of testing, X30 Ultra was the most efficient robot vacuum/mop which could complete the task of cleaning a whole home and had 66 percent of its battery remaining. It also did a good job cleaning a variety of floors and rooms that had different flooring types, including some area rugs. Its obstacle detection was top-of-the-line and it was nimbly avoiding fake dog socks, turds, shoes and cables.

It's more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however, it comes with superior suction, a built-in dust bin that automatically empties into its base, and it supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after vacuuming this feature, which hasn't been seen in other best robot cleaner vacuum/mop combinations.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

This mop and vacuum combination is sleek and has a circular design that looks more like a regular Roomba model than the boxy models from the competition. It is one of our most attractive looking robot vacuums. The latest model from iRobot is its most advanced, with advanced features including Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can wash its own mop pads).

It's also the sole robot vacuum/mop to score an absolute 10 out of 10 in our tests. This is due to a mix of high-tech sensors, including a structured light system, camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that is fully autonomously refill and empty its base station, and boasts an industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.

Like other iRobot models like the X40 is user-friendly, offering an intuitive mobile app interface, and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only drawback is that it's still quite an eerily noisy device that could be a problem if you run it in the morning before work or at night as you try to sleep.

It's also a bit costly however, not as much as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally capable and better looking. This is a dual-purpose vacuum that is very efficient however it's more expensive and create more noise.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with a lot of advanced features that will let you get rid of your chores. Similar to Ecovacs range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that can take the care of vacuuming and mopping, with a multi-function dock that automatically empty the vacuum's dust bin, fills its water tank, washes and dry the mop pads.

The smart robot uses the combination of LIDAR and structured light to draw out floor plans and spot obstacles, making it more efficient than some of its premium competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards but this was not reliable in our tests and was sometimes confused by power cords or other obstructions.

The vacuum cleaner has the capacity to suction up to 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also features "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the intensity at which the vacuum works and alters the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house according to the degree of dirt they are.

If you have a bigger home, you should consider selecting a best robot vacuum and mop that comes with zones or spot cleaning modes. This allows you to instruct the robot on which part of your home must be cleaned by using the app or voice control. If you have lots of furniture, a stair-mode is also useful. Also, a recharge and resume function that allows your robot vacuum to take over exactly where it left off is great for busy families.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is more advanced than its price would suggest. It vacuums well, picking up 55% debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with one pad that has a reciprocating motion, which cleans better than most of the other mop cleaners for robots we've tried. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app, and a self-emptying base that is washable.

The iRobot app is designed to guide you through an exercise in mapping which collects information about your floorplan and any "no go" areas you've marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules or create an automatic spot-clean. You can also use it to prioritize the most soiled areas to improve performance. The app offers a variety of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom mapping and advanced cleaning settings.

Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuums, meaning it can reach corners and underneath furniture more easily. It also has a strong suction of 8,000 Pascal suction and combs that are intelligent for hair of pets. It also has the ability to create a spot-clean that thoroughly cleans a particular area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD offers a sleeker more affordable alternative to iRobot Roomba. It is more appealing in its design, similar to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are shaped like cute eyes. It is capable of vacuuming but is more prone to getting caught on low thresholds and is a bit more noisy than the other top robot vacuums we've tested. It also has a less intuitive app and a tiny base station that can't be used as a bin for emptying.
