The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored extremely well in our tests on floors that were bare and are especially adept in removing hair from dogs. However, they do have a few flaws, however, that prevent them from being our top choice. For instance, the Q5's navigation system does not have AI-powered obstacle avoidance which means it's susceptible to getting hung up on socks and shoes and couldn't navigate tightly packed rooms very efficiently in our tests. Also, it doesn't have cameras that let it see the corners of a room.

It's still a good deal for those whose home or office has a lot of bare flooring and you're looking to save money. It's also extremely quiet and operates while you're at work or at school. It lacks the edge-to-edge bare floor vacuuming feature that's offered in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective at mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes that don't stay on very well and can't take on dried-on debris. The Q5 has an auto vacuum and mop-emptying dock, however. And, if you have to, you can switch the mopping pad to dry ones in just a few seconds.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

This robot vacuum and mop combination is sleek and has a circular look that looks much like a Roomba unit than the boxy models of the competitors. It's among our most attractive robot vacuum that mops vacuums. The newest model from iRobot happens to be its smartest, with advanced features including Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can autonomously wash mop pads).

It's the only robotic vacuum/mop that scored an exemplary 10/10 in our tests due to a mix of high-tech sensors that include a camera, structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can completely self-refill and empty its base station, and it boasts its own self-cleaning mop pads.

As with other iRobot models, the X40 is easy to use, offering a simple mobile app interface, and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The only drawback is that it's still quite a noisy unit that could be problematic if you run it in the morning prior to work or in the evening as you try to sleep.

It's also quite expensive, but not as expensive as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally impressive and attractive. If you're willing to live with a bit more noise and some extra cost this is a efficient two-in-one device that should delight most.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the line robot vacuum and mop. It comes with a variety of advanced features that will help you forget your chores. Similar to Ecovacs' range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that can take the care of mopping and vacuuming, with a multi-function dock that automatically emptys the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank and cleans and dry its mop pads.

The smart robot uses an array of LIDAR and structured light to create the floor plan and detect obstacles, making it more efficient than some of its premium competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time hazards detection but this wasn't foolproof in our tests and was sometimes confused with obstructions or power cords.

Its vacuum has a high suction maximum of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to finish the job. It also has "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the intensity at which the vacuum works and also alters the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house in accordance with the degree of dirt they tend to be.

If you have a bigger home, you should consider choosing a model that has spot or zone cleaning mode. This lets you tell the robot which area of your home needs to be cleaned with the help of an app or voice command. A stair mode can be useful if you have a number of furniture.
