WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give a guaranteed boost to specific stats. Each upgrade increases the item level by +3. Each upgrade also increases a random substat.

Upgraded gear generally sees higher trade value regardless of whether it has low requirements (like the FB sorc's shield) or a very high stat variance (like eth titan weapons). Upgrades are less important for those with lower requirements because of the requirement to roll the perfect version.

The upgrader can be found in every major city, and can be accessed at any time to upgrade your equipment. It is recommended to visit the upgrader every couple of weeks to keep your equipment up to date.

Upgrades will cost more, based on the item level, however, they are always less expensive than purchasing new equipment. Upgrades are items that can be used to upgrade weapon, armor, tool and accessory upgrades. They can be purchased by players from NPCs that sell upgrades to items in exchange for various currencies, and may also be found in random treasure lists. Crests

Players have several choices when it comes to upgrading their gear in WoW. Flightstones are a currency that is available to all players for upgrading. Crests are more specialized and are used for specific item level upgrades. Crests are an integral part of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System introduced in version 10.1. They come in four ranks.

The first thing to remember is that crests can only be spent on equipment of a particular rank, and that each rank has its own requirements for upgrading. The simplest and most straightforward upgrade process costs just 15 crests while the more complex one can require as much as 20 crests depending on the type of gear being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through finishing tasks at the appropriate level. The new currency system isn't too difficult to use, however it will bring some changes to the upgrade process. When a piece of equipment attains the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer), it will no longer require Flightstones. This is to allow players to get their equipment up to the highest ilvl possible on all their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.

Another important modification is that crests have one usage and it's crucial to make use of them in a responsible manner. For instance it's a good idea to make use of all your Whelpling-rank crests with the best gear you have available, and then save Drake and Wyrm crests for the next round of upgrades you plan to make. This is especially relevant for rings and trinkets that take up multiple slots on the character which will only be able to avail the account-wide discount if all slots are full of high-quality gear.
