The mops also have a smart system to clean around the edges of furniture and around walls. The robot is able to easily get around obstacles like food bowls, toys and backpacks. It is able to get tangled or stuck with smaller, flatter objects like shoelaces, USB cable, and pens.

This robot was used to mop and vacuum hardwood floors, FLOR carpet tiles and pile rugs in a large open-plan house. With FREO Mind enabled, it vacuumed and mopped the 90m2 area in just 170 minutes, which is close to the average for Gen 4.

Its 2,500Pa suction was weaker than the other robots, however it was still quiet and moved quickly. It didn't mop however, and its removable cleaning pads were fiddly to attach and could not deal with dirt that had dried on.

Its app is a little on the basic side with no advanced features such as multiple cleaning modes and automated scheduling. It works with Alexa however its voice commands don't seem to be very intuitive or responsive. It's also difficult when it comes to getting back to the charging station after a run Other robots can trace a previous path or follow a wall until they get to their home however the RX3 simply bumbles around until it gives up and sends a failure message to your phone.

Another issue we encountered was with its intelligent features, specifically the mapping function and the digital keep-out zones. It was effective in keeping our shoes and furniture legs away, but it was easily caught on cables, socks and carpets. We didn't include the Scout RX3 in our Best Buy list. Still, with a decent price tag and impressive performance The Scout RX3 is worth considering if you're looking for a smarter alternative to the traditional uprights.
