Both the Q5 and the Q7 Max Series get very good scores in our tests on floors that are bare They're also particularly adept in cleaning pet hair. However, they have a few flaws that keep them from being our top choice. One of the flaws of the Q5 is its navigation system doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance. It's therefore prone to getting stuck on shoes and socks and couldn't navigate densely packed rooms very efficiently during our tests. Also, it doesn't have a camera that would let it see the corners of a room.

It's still a great option to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on an iRobot Roomba and you have a mostly bare-floor home or office. It's also quiet and can be used when you're at work or in school. The only thing it doesn't have that you can't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming of floors with no floor. And it's less effective at mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes that don't stay on well and aren't able to take on dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying cradle however. If you're required to mop, the mopping pad can be swapped for an awe-inspiring one in a matter of seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact, sleek vacuum cleaner that can mop floors. Its intelligent cleaning maps and quick navigation make it easy to clean, and effective in tackling larger particles, like pet hair. It also has a self-emptying bin as well as powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot vacuum robotic hoover for carpets, but it isn't as effective as some of its competitors in terms of deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mop utilizes sensor technology that can avoid obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the patterns of your home over time to ensure cleaner and more efficient cleaning. You can alter its cleaning schedule and customize zones through the well-designed app. It comes with a battery life that is comparable to other models.

You can tell the X30 Ultra to remove its mop and extend them when it's in a carpeted area to prevent cross-contamination. This mop and vacuum combination is sleek and has a circular design that looks more like the regular Roomba unit than the boxy units of the competition. It's among our most attractive robot vacuums. The latest model from iRobot is its most advanced and has advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology as well as future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads).

It's also the sole robot vacuum/mop that scored the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our tests. This is due to a mix of high-tech sensors, including a structured light system, camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can fully autonomously refill and empty its base station, and boasts an the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40 as with other iRobot products, is simple to use. It comes with a simple mobile application interface and integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that it's still quite an eerily noisy device, which can be problematic if you run it in the morning prior to work or in the evening as you try to fall asleep.

It's also a bit expensive however, not as expensive as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally capable and better looking. If you're willing to put up with a little more noise and some additional cost, this is a very capable two-in-one that should please almost everyone.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the line robot mop and vacuum. It comes with a variety of features that are advanced and will make you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning device, similar to Ecovacs' top-of-the-range X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It has a multifunction dock which automatically empty the vacuum's bin and refills the water tank, as well as washes and dry mop pads.

The smart robot utilizes LIDAR and structured lighting to map out floorplans and identify obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its competitors with premium features. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with one pad that has a reciprocating motion that does a better job cleaning than the other robot mop cleaners we've tested. It's also self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app as well as a self-emptying, washable base.

The well-designed iRobot app guides you through an initial mapping session that collects data about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you mark on the map. You can use it to make cleaning schedules, set up a spot clean or to sort out your rooms with the most dirt to ensure better performance. It also comes with an app that's less intuitive, and a smaller base station that does not double as a bin for emptying.
