World of Warcraft Upgrades and Item Upgrading

Upgrades boost the value of certain numeric stats on armor, weapons and rings. They also boost extra bonuses like crit chance and PvE damage.

If the weapon's upgrade template is in %, the weapon will be able to gain an additional 3% of the previous attack damage every time it's upgraded.

The cost of upgrading an item is determined by the item's level. The cost rises with item's level.

Components

Upgrade components are items that can be put into armor, weapons, and trinkets to give an extra stat boost or effect when they're used. They can be acquired through crafting, buying from vendors, trading or looting. Certain upgrades have unique cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components are only available to equipment with a slot. The item must be at least upgraded to blue before a component can be applied. Unlike other mods, upgrade item components can only be used once and can't be used multiple times or replaced with new upgrades. Infusions and enrichments are a particular kind of upgrade component that is designed for non-amulet ascended and legendary equipment as well as the items that are not ascending back. Infusions and enrichments are recovered by salvaging gear that is ascended or completing an elite mission in the Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall campaigns.
