Both robots excel at cleaning up surface debris from carpets and hard floors, and they're very adept at moving around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software creates intelligent maps of your home, which help the i3+ EVO to navigate and clean in a way that maximizes efficiency. However unlike the i7+ and other top-rated robots that we evaluated the i3+ doesn't have obstacle-avoidance capabilities which means it can get stuck on things like socks or power cords, and it can have difficulty in navigating through transitions between surfaces like hardwood to rug.

iRobot recommends that you tidy up the area where the i3+ EVO vacuums before using it. This includes getting rid of any toys or clutter it may encounter. It is also recommended to keep the dustbin and filter free of dirt to prevent them from becoming clogged. If the i3+ EVO's internal bin is full or the battery is depleted it goes back to its docking station and automatically empties its debris into the station's external dustbin, and then continues cleaning the area where it left off. The battery's life span is approximately an hour-and-a-half of continuous use. It takes 3 hours to fully charge.

2. Roomba from iRobot

The iRobot i7+ is a top model from iRobot’s flagship line and is packed with the latest technology. It's self-charging, self-navigating and the most important feature of all -- it has self-emptying bins that eliminate one of the main sources of maintenance for any robot vacuum.

The Roomba I7+ can make rooms more efficient maps using Imprint Smart Mapping. It also integrates with iRobot Home to schedule cleaning jobs, and you can control your robot through the app or voice.

The i7+ is quicker and more maneuverable in our tests compared to the eufy RoboVac G30. It also removed large pet hair pieces from any surface, including carpeting. Its main advantage over the eufy, though, is its self-emptying dustbin, which eliminates a major cause of maintenance and reduces the cost of maintenance.

We were also awestruck by the i7+’s compatibility with Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant AI services. We used these services to instruct the robot to start or stop cleaning sessions and also to move around the room, and even vacuum a specific area. The iRobot Home App made it easy to connect the i7+ with these services. After being connected, to give voice commands to the i7+ for example "Hey Alexa vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home app also provides options for managing the i7+'s settings and monitoring its performance.

3. Dyson Cyclone V10

This tiny Dyson model is a sports car in a sea of vacuums with cords that feel like minivans and buses. It's powerful enough to replace a stand-up vacuum in most homes, but also small enough to fit on the bookcase or coffee table.

The V10 is powered with a Lithium-ion battery with 7 cells of energy that can provide power that is not fading for 60 minutes. Its advanced whole-machine filter system removes allergens, and then releases clean air back into your home. Its specialized cleaning head drives stiff nylon bristles deep into carpet to collect large particles and fine dust. It has three suction modes to suit the task at hand. It can quickly switch between handheld and floor vacuum, and vice versa.

The model also comes with docks that charge to 100% in about 3.5 hours and offers easy access to two attachments as well as a clip for a wand. This is a major improvement over previous Dysons which require a long charge and are difficult to store.

The V10's biggest drawback is its limited run time. Its marketing claims that it has up to 60 minutes of run time are misleading as CR's tests have shown. This is a typical battery-powered cordless vacuum's running time. That's still enough run time to clean most of a typical-sized home, but not quite long enough to clean every spot (though a second run-through usually will suffice). This model has its own advantages, however: it's lighter and more maneuverable than earlier Dysons cordless models and its ability to vacuum is noticeable superior on carpets with low pile.

4. iRobot Roomba 694

The 694 is a standard robot vacuum that's an excellent choice for those who don't have lots of money to spend on the latest model of robot. It was able to pick up most types of debris and sizes during our testing and often went over the same area multiple times to ensure a thorough clean. Its flat front side helps to get into corners and along the walls' edges and walls, which is a nice touch.

Its navigation system is smart and uses iAdapt to stay clear of obstacles and navigate your home, but it lacks the mapping capability of more sophisticated models like our top choices and the i3+ EVO and the j7+ series. It is prone to getting stuck on phone cords or low furniture and often runs out of power before returning to its original location.

The Xiaomi Mi robot is superior in many ways to the Roomba 694 in that it has less parts that require regular cleaning, comes with an allergen-trapping HEPA filtration system, incurs lower cost of recurring costs, has more advanced automation abilities and can better move itself. It also has a larger dustbin and charges quicker.

The eufy RoboVac X8 has a superior battery life than the Roomba. It also has physical boundaries and can be controlled using the voice assistant on your smartphone. It also feels more sturdy, has a more powerful motor, and is able to perform better on bare floors and carpets with low pile, while offering a wider range of automation options.

5. Samsung Jet Bot AI+

Samsung is a household name in the field of home electronics. It's no surprise that they are also among the top producers of robot vacuums and mop. Their Jet Bot AI+ is equipped with cutting-edge onboard technology to aid in navigation and obstacles avoidance.

In our tests during our tests, the Jet Bot AI+ performed well on hard floors. It cleaned up 86 percent of dog hair (on carpet). It was not as successful in avoiding taller items like cords or socks. This was disappointing. It's also more expensive than other models we've tested and this could be a problem for some buyers.
