The best robot hoover can clean and mop without requiring your attention, and leaves your floors spotless. Its surprisingly affordable price and high-end features (such as dirt detection) are pluses.

1. Roomba Q5 Pro

The Q5 Pro and its sibling, the more expensive Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've tested. They feature top-of-the-line motors that can pull up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. Like other premium iRobot models (including the top-rated model) they employ smart mapping technology to design detailed floor plans and avoid home-based obstacles like cords and furniture legs. They also have a feature called carpet boost which boosts the robot's power when it sees a lot of dirt on the carpet in order to get it cleaned up quickly.

Both the Q5 and the Q7 Max Series get very excellent scores in our floor tests that test for bare floors and are particularly effective at cleaning pet hair. There are some issues however, which hinder them from being our first option. One of them is that the Q5's navigation doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance and is therefore prone to become entangled in shoes and socks, and is unable to navigate rooms with a lot of people efficiently in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera to see around corners.

It's still a good deal particularly if your home or office has a lot of bare flooring and you're looking to save some money. Plus, it's very quiet and can work when you're at work or going to school. The only thing it lacks that you don't get in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. It's also less effective in mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes that don't stick well and isn't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 does have self-emptying docks, however. If you're in need of it, the mopping pad can be swapped for one that is wet in just a few minutes.

2. IRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming capabilities into a sleek, compact package. Its smart cleaning maps and fluid navigation make it simple to clean and effective in tackling larger particles such as pet hair. It also features a powerful suction and a self-emptying bin. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, although it's not as effective as some rivals in deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mop utilizes sensor technology that can stay clear of obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the patterns of your home over time and provide cleaner and more efficient cleaning. The app allows you to set up zones and modify the cleaning schedule. Its battery life is average when compared to other models.

When the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can instruct it to remove and extend its mop. This helps prevent cross contamination. Its flex arm can also be used to reach beneath furniture that is low and along baseboards. It's not as effective on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

During tests during testing, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot auto vacuum and mop/mop that could complete the entire house with only 66 percent of its battery left. It also did a good job cleaning a range of floors and rooms with mixed flooring types, including some area carpets. Its obstacle detection was top-of-the-line and it swiftly eluded fake dog socks, turds, shoes and cables.

It's a little more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, but it has superior suction, a dustbin on board that automatically empties into its base, and also supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can also clean the floor even after it vacuums. This is something we haven't seen in other robot vacuum/mop combination.

3. IRobot Roomba X40

With an elegant circular design that appears like a regular Roomba rather than the boxes This robot vacuum and mop combo is among the most attractive looking models in our tests. The latest model from iRobot is its most advanced, with advanced features including Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology as well as future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads).

It's the only robotic vacuum/mop to score an exemplary 10/10 in our tests thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors, including a camera, structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that is fully self-refill and empty its base station, and it has an the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40 as with other iRobot products, is simple to use. It has an easy mobile application interface and is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only real drawback is that it's still quite a noisy unit, which can be an issue if you use it in the morning prior to work or at night as you try to sleep.

It's also quite expensive, but it's not as pricey as Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are similarly capable and look better. This is a dual-purpose vacuum that's extremely powerful, but it's going to cost you more and make more noise.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the high-end robot vacuum and mop. It has a number of advanced features that make you forget about your chores. Like Ecovacs range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that takes charge of both vacuuming and mopping, with a multifunction dock that automatically empties the vacuum's dust bin, fills its water tank, washes and dries its mop pads.

The smart robot utilizes LIDAR and structured lighting to map out floor plans and spot obstacles. It navigates more intelligently than its top competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time hazards detection however this was not completely foolproof in our tests, and could be confused with power cords or obstructions.

Its automatic vacuum and mop has a suction maximum of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to complete the task. It also comes with an option called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the auto vacuum and mop's power and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house based on how dirty the areas tend to be.

If you own a larger home, you should consider selecting a model with a spot or zone cleaning mode. This allows you to inform the robot of which area of your home needs to be cleaned with the help of an app or voice control. If you have a lot of furniture, a stair-mode is also a good option. For busy families recharge functions and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to resume where it left off could be extremely useful.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is a smarter cleaner than you would think from its price. It vacuums well, picking up 55% debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses using only one pad and a reciprocating motion that cleans better that most of the mop cleaners with robots that we've tried. It's also extremely self-sufficient, with a fully-featured application, and a self-emptying, washable base.

The iRobot app is designed to help you navigate the mapping process, which gathers information on your floorplan and any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, or to create the spot-cleaning. You can also use it to prioritize the most soiled areas for greater efficiency. The app also gives access to a host of features like seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.

Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums, which means it is able to reach corners and underneath furniture better. It also has a strong suction of 8,000 Pascal suction and combs that are intelligent for hair of pets. You can also organize a spot-cleaner that will thoroughly clean a specific area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD offers a sleeker more affordable alternative to iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras appear like cute eyes. It's good at vacuuming but is more prone to getting caught on low thresholds and is a bit noisier than the other top robotic vacuums we've examined. It also comes with an app that's less intuitive and has a tiny base station that can't double as a bin for emptying.
