For instance, the Q5's navigation system does not feature AI-powered obstacle avoidance technology which means it's susceptible to getting hung up on socks and shoes and couldn't navigate tight spaces very efficiently in our tests. Also, it doesn't have a camera that would let it see the corners of a room.

However, it's a good choice, especially if you want to save money on a iRobot Roomba and you have a mostly bare-floor home or office. It's also extremely quiet and can be used while you're at work or in school. The only thing it lacks that you can't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. And it's less effective at mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes that don't stay on well and aren't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 comes with a self-emptying cradle, however. If you need to, the mopping pad can be swapped for a wet one in minutes.

2. iRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive vacuuming and mopping capabilities into an elegant, compact package. Its intelligent cleaning maps and fluid navigation make it simple to clean and effective in tackling larger particles such as pet hair. It also features a self-emptying bin with powerful suction and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot vacuum for carpets, but it isn't as efficient as some of its competitors in deep cleaning.

It's a bit more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however it offers superior suction, an onboard dustbin that automatically empties into its base, and it supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can also clean the floor even after it vacuums. This is a feature that we haven't seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combinations.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

This robot vacuum and mop combination features a sleek, circular design that appears more like a regular Roomba unit than the boxy units of the competition. It's among our most attractive looking robot vacuums. The latest model from iRobot is also its smartest. It has advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that can wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).

It's the only robotic mop or vacuum to score an exemplary 10/10 in our testing due to a mix of high-tech sensors that include cameras, a structured lighting system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation in a self-contained manner. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop mops.

As with other iRobot models like the X40 is user-friendly, offering a simple mobile app interface as well as integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The only issue is that the X40 still a loud unit. This could be a concern in the mornings before work or during the night when you're trying to fall asleep.

It comes with a multifunction dock that automatically empties the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank, and washes and dry the mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of LIDAR and structured lighting to map out floor plans and detect obstacles. It navigates more intelligently than its competitors with premium features. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards but this was not reliable in our tests and was sometimes confused by power cords or other obstructions.

The app also gives access to many options, including seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.

Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuums, which means it can reach corners and underneath furniture better. It also has strong 8000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs for pet hair. It also has the ability to set up a spot clean that intensely cleans a localized area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker, cheaper alternative to iRobot Roomba. It is more appealing in its style, much like Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are shaped like cute eyes. It is great at vacuuming, but it's more likely to get stuck on low thresholds. It is also louder than other top robot vacuums we've examined. It also has a less intuitive app and a small base station that can't be used as a bin for emptying.
