World of Warcraft Item Upgrades

Item upgrades are a way to increase the stats of an item. Depending on the type of upgrade, it can increase an item's Rarity or Mark Level and boost additional stats.

Each item comes with a track for upgrading it. Each upgrade increases the cost of the following one by a certain amount.

Item Level

When an item is upgraded, its stats improve in value. This value is the total of all of its upgraded benefits (attack magic attack, attack defense). Upgrades can be expensive, depending on the person you hire and what you do. This is because of how many perks need to be replaced to allow the item to get upgraded.

Item level is a popular measurement of power and can be seen on all tooltips of items. It is also used to limit how much PvP gear players can wear, since PvP is limited at lower levels. Players can view their average level of items on their character sheet.

When deciding whether to buy or sell equipment players can evaluate the level of an item. It's a measure of the item's damage and quality. Comparing items in the inventory of a vendor is possible using the item level.

The level of the item can be seen by pressing the ALT key on PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. This will show the full description of the item, as well as its value. It can also be found by hovering over an item with the mouse cursor and typing /itemlevel into chat.

There are a few theories about how the calculation of an item's level is made. One theory is that the item level is a numerical value derived from a formula that calculates the amount an item's stats are worth. It considers the fact that different perks have different worth and that gems in sockets increase the item's overall value. This could result in an item's ilvl which is calculated and is usually very close to Blizzards actual level of the item.

This is not the only factor that influences the ilvl of an item. The level of the area where the item was dropped may change its stats. For instance it can add a level to the item's haste, or crit rating. Items dropped in higher-level instances will have a higher ilvl.

Item Stats

The stats of an item can be the difference between a good or bad item for players. The game uses a lot of them in various ways to encourage players to play with multiple weapons, and prevent one weapon from being "the best." The base stats on a weapon are boosted by the weapon's stat mods which are then enhanced by the player's level.

Item upgrades add to that by increasing certain stats of the item. The costs for upgrades are determined by the rarity of the item. A white or grey item for instance, will only be upgraded once and items with rare tiers may be upgraded multiple times with more expensive costs.

Affixes are another way to alter the stats of an item. These are special stat boosts that can be added to an item by the player and they come in all sizes and shapes. Affixes are used to provide items with extra damage, special capabilities (such as reviving dead or reducing cooling downs), or to distinguish them by naming them.

All affixes can be currently re-rolled by selecting them in the upgrade menu and pressing the green button. This process will cost the player a certain amount of gold and other items that can be added to the upgrade gauge in the same manner as the other options for rerolling.

In addition to rerolling affixes, players can select which of the available stats to keep on an item when it is upgraded. The range of stats is determined by the item's level. However each item will have at least one stat within that range unless they are an item that is unique or the item is a God Roll from a boss in a raid.

Another thing that could be altered by adding the option to upgrade the equipment without rerolling the affixes, or selecting which stats to increase. However, as with the base equipment, this would have to be carried out on a per-item basis and the interface for item comparison wouldn't show all possible stats gained or lost at once.

Item Luck

The Luck stat of a player boosts the probability of obtaining items and the properties that are created by loot and the strength of these properties. It does not, however directly impact damage or the ability to upgrade items. It gives the player the chance to upgrade equipment earlier in the game. This is more beneficial for early game runs, because players tend to put weapon scaling and defenses above raw damage gains.

In addition to influencing the discovery of items, Luck also increases the chance of success when upgrading items with the Blacksmith. This is not to confuse with the Blacksmith's overall chances of upgrading that increase with each item level. It is also possible to be enhanced by using anti-materials such as a Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.

Weapons, armor, and shields can be made or spawn by using the Luck property, with an initial value of 40. These items can be augmented by using golden ingots or spined leather (depending on the material they are made of) to add another 40 luck or to increase the Luck of an item up to 140.

Furthermore, certain items, like the Hollow weapon that is infused with hollow can be outfitted to increase the damage of any damage-dealing skill by 5%. These items are available in the shop or crafted by using the appropriate ingredients.

Item Failure

Not all upgrades work. However, there are cash shop items that allow players to increase their chance of success or stop them from losing an item in the event that the upgrade fails.

The success rate of an upgrade items is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage indicates the probability of successful upgrading an item. This can be increased by using Additional Materials or Special materials. There are limitations on the extent to which the success rates can be improved, and the overall chance of an upgrade failing can't exceed 100%.

The Luck of an item can influence the effectiveness of an upgrade. Each item has an overall success rate of 25 percent, and each item that has Luck increases the chance of success by 5%.

The item upgrade overlays are rendered above items in the inventory. This may cause obscurity to enchantment effects or other effects. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
