WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a boost in specific statistics. Each upgrade boosts the item level by +3. A random substat is also increased with every upgrade.

The upgraded gear is usually more useful, unless the Item level upgrade has low requirements by nature (like FB sorc shields) or a high stat variance (like eth Titan weapons). The latter are less valuable from upgrading due to the requirement to roll for a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader lets players upgrade items their gear by offering the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be made on any kind of weapon or armor. However, the item that is used to upgrade will be consumed forever and can't be used again. Upgrades can be used to create Enchantments.

You can upgrade your gear anytime by visiting the upgrader in any major city. To keep your gear up-to-date, it is recommended that you visit the upgrader each couple of weeks.

The cost of upgrades will be based on the current item level of the item upgrader mod being upgraded, but will always be cheaper than buying new equipment from other sources. Upgrades like upgrading a Benthic chest to the level of ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. If you purchase a similar item, it will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to improve the quality of weapons tools, armor, and other accessories. They can be purchased from NPCs of item upgrader mod upgraders in a variety of currencies. They are also available on random treasure lists. Once an upgrade has been purchased it can be used on any weapon, tool, or armor using a button, which will display an image of the item upgrades at the next upgrade level when the player has enough materials.

The cost of upgrading is based on the slot of the item and current item level as well as the level of the weapon, which is more than bracers or gloves, for instance. Each step costs 15 Flightstones and a number of crests, with certain upgrades offering discounts to lower the cost of the Flightstones or the crests used. Once an item has been upgraded to a certain degree it is able to be degraded and sold back to the upgrader for a lesser amount of both currency types.

Upgraders for items are available at many locations including the main island and some outposts. The NPCs provide an upgrade discount and the chance to get a brand new upgrade recipe. The discount for upgrading increases as more items are upgraded. It can also be increased by having players complete certain achievements or quests.

In contrast to Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II there is no upgrader for items available at the beginning of Icewind Dale. Instead, the NPCs that are available to facilitate upgrades are acquired via a variety of means, which is both an improvement and a drawback.

In Season 3, many new features have been added to the upgrade system. Once a player obtains an upgrade to a certain level for an item in an armor slot, upgrading further items to that same item level will be less expensive, even if they are part of another set of gear.

The discount is applicable to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests needed for upgrades is also cut and is not available until players have reached certain milestones in their achievements.

Crests

When upgrading equipment in WoW players have a variety of options. Flightstones are a currency that is available to everyone who wants to upgrade. Crests are more specific and are utilized during specific item level upgrades. Crests are the main component of the Dragonflight gear progression system introduced in 10.1 and are available in four ranks.

The first thing to be aware of is that crests are only able to be used to purchase gear of a specific rank, and that every rank has different requirements for upgrading. The easiest and most straightforward upgrade is 15 crests. The most complicated upgrade could require as much as 20 crests, contingent on the kind of gear being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through completing content at the appropriate level. This could mean doing outdoor activities, or by completing dungeons and raids in all difficulties to get equipment of lower tier or Mythicbosses for raids, or dungeons with heroic difficulty for endgame gear. The crests can later be exchanged at an item upgrader NPC, like Cuzolth in Dornogal or Vaskarn in Valdrakken, for the appropriate upgrade paths and steps.

The new currency system isn't complicated to use, however it will bring some changes to the upgrade process. When a piece of equipment attains the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer), it no longer requires Flightstones. This change is designed to allow players to upgrade their equipment up to the highest possible ilvl for all their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.

Another important modification is that crests have one usage and it's crucial to use them properly. It is recommended to use your Whelpling-rank crests on the best gear you can locate and save Drake and Wyrm Crests for the next set of upgrades. This is particularly true for items like rings and trinkets that take up multiple slots on the character, which will only be able to take advantage of the discount for all accounts when all of the slots are filled with top-quality equipment.
