The robots also have Carpet Boost, a feature that boosts its power when it senses dirt on the carpet.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored very well in our tests of floors with no carpet, and they are particularly adept in removing hair from dogs. However, they have some flaws that prevent them from being our top pick. For one, the Q5's navigation doesn't have AI-powered obstacle avoidance and is therefore prone to become entangled in shoes and socks and can't navigate tight spaces very well in our tests. It also doesn't come with a camera that would let it see the corners of a room.

However, it's a good choice to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on an Roomba from iRobot and have a mostly bare-floor home or office. Additionally, it's quiet and can be used when you're at work or going to school. It doesn't have the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming offered by the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective when it comes to mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere well and isn't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 does have self-emptying docks, however. If you need to, the mopping pad can be changed for a wet one in minutes.

2. IRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact elegant vacuum cleaner that also has the ability to mop floors. Its intelligent cleaning maps and nimble navigation make it easy to clean, and effective in dealing with larger particles, like pet hair. It also comes with a powerful suction and an automatic hoover bin for emptying. It's the best robot cleaner robot hoover for carpets, but it's not as effective as some rivals in deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mops utilizes sensor technology that can avoid obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the layout of your home over time to provide cleaner and more efficient cleaning. You can change its cleaning schedule and customize zones through the well-designed app. Its battery life is average when compared to other models.

It is possible to instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and extend them when it's in a room with carpet, which helps prevent cross-contamination. Its flex arm can also be utilized to reach under furniture with low levels and along baseboards. It can even clean the floor after vacuuming, a feature that we've not seen on other robot autonomous vacuum/mop combos.

3. IRobot Roomba X40

This mop and vacuum combination is sleek and has a circular look that looks more like the regular Roomba model than the boxy models from the competitors. It is one of our most attractive looking robot vacuums. The latest model from iRobot is also the most intelligent. It features advanced features such as Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads on its own).

It's also the only robotic vacuum/mop to score a perfect 10 out of 10 in our tests. This is due to a mix of high-tech sensors including a structured light system, camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can fully self-refill and empty its base station and it boasts its own self-cleaning mop pads.

Like other iRobot models like the X40 is user-friendly, with a simple mobile app interface, and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Google Assistant. The only drawback is that the X40 is still a loud unit. This can be a problem in mornings before work, or in the evening when you are trying to fall asleep.

It's also quite expensive however, not as much as the Ecovacs S8 MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally powerful and more attractive. This is a dual-purpose vacuum that is very efficient, but it will cost you more and produce more noise.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the best automatic vacuum robot mop and vacuum. It has a range of advanced features that will make you forget about your chores. Like Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that can take the care of mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multifunction dock that automatically emptys the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank, and washes and dries its mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of an array of LIDAR and structured light to draw out floor plans and identify obstacles, making it more efficient than its more expensive competitors. It also has a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards, although this wasn't quite foolproof in our testing and was occasionally confused by power cords or other obstructions.

The vacuum has a suction maximum of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also has "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates how hard the vac works and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of your home depending on the amount of dirt they tend to be.

If you have a larger home, you should consider selecting a model with a spot or zone cleaning mode. This allows you to instruct the robot on which part of your house needs to be cleaned using the app or voice control. A stair mode can be useful if you have a large furniture. For families that are busy, a recharge function and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum to continue from where it left off can be very beneficial.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is more advanced than the price suggests. It vacuums well, picking up 55% debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using one pad that has a reciprocating motion that cleans better than most of the other robot mop cleaners we've tried. And it's highly self-sufficient with a full-featured app and an auto-emptying, washable base.

The iRobot application is designed to help you navigate a mapping run which collects information about your floorplan and any "no go" areas you've marked on the map. It can be used to make cleaning schedules, plan an area for cleaning or to prioritise your dirtiest rooms to ensure better performance. The app has a range of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping and advanced cleaning settings.

Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuums, which means it can get to corners and underneath furniture better. It also has a powerful 8000 Pascal suction and combs that are intelligent for pet hair. It also has the ability to set up a spot cleaning that thoroughly cleans a particular area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker more affordable alternative to iRobot Roomba. It is more appealing in its style, much like Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed to resemble cute eyes. It is great at vacuuming, however it is more likely to get caught in low thresholds. It is also noisier than other top robot vacuums we have examined. It also has a less user-friendly app and a small base station that doesn't double as a bin for emptying.
