It is connected to the BMW CAN data network and is programmed with a unique PIN code that is accessed by buttons in your car. This lets you enter a specific key push sequence that isn't found available in the usual media menus, such as volume up/down or source, cruise control or turning on air conditioning, which prevents your car from starting unless the sequence is entered. The PIN can be between 4 and 20 characters, making it very difficult for thieves to figure out.

In addition to this we can also add a service / valet mode to the system. This is activated when your car is in for servicing so that the Ghost is not visible to the garage. You can activate this by pressing the service button 5 times on your infotainment system (the system will flash in confirmation) and the Ghost will automatically rearm when you return.

When parked at home or in an event where you meet and greet, the ghost immobiliser car can be put into service mode which allows you to start your car with your keys in the normal way, but prevents the engine from starting again unless the correct code is entered. This is ideal for customers who have to hand over their cars to valet companies, or trusted family members or friends. It also allows you to get the car into the garage for repairs, maintenance etc without having to worry about it getting damaged or stolen by a mechanic whilst you wait.

When the service/valet mode is activated when the service/valet mode is enabled, your BMW is unable to drive after it has been started. This stops anyone else from testing driving it while you are away. When you return, it will be back to normal stopping your vehicle from being tampered with or stolen once again.

Once the anti-hijacking mode is activated and the engine is restarted, any attempt to restart the engine will be thwarted. The system will sharpen the horn and flash the indicators. It will also stall the vehicle when the code isn't found. The device is connected to the CAN Data Network of the vehicle (similar to an Ethernet cable) and a unique pin code is programmed in it. The pin code needs to be entered before the engine starts.
