Path of Exile Item Upgrades

The performance of many Path of Exile items can be improved by upgrading the performance of them. They can be a great source of damage and more AD or even more attachments.

In most cases, however, upgraded Common and Magic gear is often surpassed by Rare-grade equipment due to their requirements.

Armor

Armor upgrades are a type of upgrade that can be used on armor and weapon items. They improve the stats of the item that they are attached to. Armor upgrades are found in the world of the game and can be purchased from Blacksmiths at any bonfire. Alternately, they can be salvaged from items that have upgrade components inside them, using a specialist or more powerful salvage kit.

The level of an armor's or weapon's upgrade determines the amount of damage it is able to take on. The upgrade of an armor piece to the highest upgrade level will boost its damage absorption. It is important to note that this will increase the weight of the armor, which means it must be heavier.

There are several kinds of armor upgrades that are available in the game, and they all have distinct effects. Certain upgrades grant armor a greater number of health points while others make it stronger and lighter. The name of the upgrade will indicate the type of upgrade an item upgrading can receive, as shown below.

Some upgrades are magical or a combination of magic and technology, which is indicated by a "Magic" or "Hybrid" entry in the table below. Certain upgrades require charges in order to be used. These are indicated as "Charges" entries in the table. These charges are continuously updated or never expire depending on the upgrade.

The cheapest way to upgrade armor is with Iron Ore, which can be obtained by exploring the area and looting minor loot chests. Titanium is more expensive, however it is obtainable from the smelters in Orgrimmar and Stormwind City. Some upgrades, such as the Reforge and the Hot Potato Books, can only be applied to higher level armor pieces. These upgrades can give a significant boost in stats, and are worth the investment.

A piece of armor upgraded to the highest upgrade level will greatly boost its defense however, the user must be aware that increasing its weight will dramatically reduce its agility and speed. For this reason, it is generally not recommended to upgrade the majority of armor pieces above +9, since the added defense is generally not worth the weight and power costs of the upgrades needed.

Weapons

Weapon upgrades allow players to increase the effectiveness of specific aspects of the weapon. For instance, an upgrade may enhance the damage caused by a shotgun's shells or the accuracy of a rifle that snipes. Some weapons have special upgrades to improve their inherent capabilities. Frictionless materials (improves stability, minimizes weapon overheating), and Kinetic coils (increases the projectile's speed to cause more damage) are two examples.

The majority of upgrades to weapons require a whetblade. It's one of three Power Dices and a different amount Minerals and Erons. They can be obtained by doing side quests, or killing a certain amount of monsters or bosses or through the Weapon upgrade items NPC in Central Flarine.

Upgrading a Weapon, Equipment Set piece or Whetblade requires visiting the NPC [Armor] Boboko in Central Flarine and paying her an upgrade fee of a certain number of Bars. The more bars you need to complete an upgrade the higher the level. If you have multiple upgrade materials the cost of upgrading will be less.

In Chapter 2: Season 5, the method of upgrading your equipment and weapon sets was a bit different. Prior to Chapter 2 Season 5, you could upgrade your weapon and equipment by paying a certain number of Bars. You could continue to do this until you reached a maximum upgrade level for the weapon or equipment, after which the upgrades would be reset.

It's possible, but it is dependent heavily on RNG. Instead, you're better off going to the stores and purchasing equipment with low upgrade items levels, but good base scores and stat distributions. These will then have a better chance of bringing you the highest tier benefits and blessings.

To increase their level faster, most players will prioritise upgrading their weapons. Players should also upgrade the weapons their teammates utilize to increase their power. For instance, Shepard should consider upgrading the M92F to unlock the Beretta M93R to enhance its effectiveness when accompanied by biotech specialists such as Grunt and Tali.

Jewels

Jewels are placed in the armor's sockets and weapons, enhancing the power of a character and bringing about secondary effects. They can be created through a process called jewelry crafting, which is where you combine a gem and various ingredients at a table for jewelry. The higher the grade of the gemstone, the better the secondary effect. These reagents can be gotten from Treasure Goblins and World Bosses around the world, or by salvaging Legendary Gear. You can also buy them from The Jeweler for gold and a Scattered Prism.

The Jeweler can boost the quality of the gem in stages that range from Crude up to Royal. Based on the level of the gem, it will provide a different stat boost when slotted into weapons, equipment and jewelry.

The Jeweler can craft all tiers of gems, apart from the rare and legendary ones that you must attain certain levels to gain. Jewels can be replaced with another one without damaging the original. However, you can only replace a jewel in an item of equipment once.

It is normal to use more jewels to enhance the appearance of. In addition to improving performance, the jewels create an area that is stronger than steel, so the repeated friction from pivots won't cause harm as easily.

A Glyphmaster can provide glyphs that can enhance the look of your shields and weapons. These glyphs provide a small boost and can be freely exchanged, however they are not guaranteed to appear as loot. Glyphs can be upgraded, like jewelry, at the Jeweler for gold, and also a Scattered Crystal. Glyphs can also be removed and returned to the inventory. Other upgrade components, such as aegis or traits cannot be swapped, and can only be recovered with an Upgrade extractor or salvaging using Black Lion Salvage Kit or Ascended Salvage tool.

Trinkets

Trinkets can provide your hero with various small, but beneficial advantages. You can find them in the starter area as rewards for personal stories or loot. They can also be obtained from vendors as well as through the completion of road interactions. They can also be crafted by jewelers and later found or purchased at the Trading Post.

The first trinkets a player can unlock is the cloak, which grants a small, but valuable boost to movement speed and the ability to escape. After that, they can purchase amulets, rings and necklaces in the same manner to the way a player obtains armor and weapons. Each piece of equipment comes with an upgrade slot that is either universal or jewel. Universal upgrades offer smaller bonuses and can be used in any type of equipment, however, jewelry cannot be replaced or upgraded and is only compatible with certain kinds of trinkets.

These trinkets also provide additional buffs and skills that remain active whenever the hero is not fighting. This allows a hero to become more efficient even when not in combat. It also helps compensate for the absence of excellent slot in the talent tree or team which are usually filled by the hero's best stats.

A good general rule of thumb for trinket upgrades is to prioritize BiS (Best-in-Slot) items that you won't be replacing soon, followed by items with desirable stats, but less important than the iLevel of the item upgrader mod that is being upgraded. This is true especially if you're looking to upgrade several statistics on an item. It's better to upgrade one important stat rather than two suboptimal ones.

At the beginning of the game, junglers will usually want to upgrade their trinket to a red, while top and mid players will usually opt for either a pink or green ward (depending on the matchup). These choices will have an impact on the hero's ability to manage the map.

In addition to the items mentioned above, players will also find other trinkets in the form of rewards and trophies throughout the game. These can be earned through completing certain milestones within the story. For example, completing the main quest for a chapter or defeating a boss.
