The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive sibling the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful robotic vacuums we've tested. They are equipped with motors that are top of the quality and can suction up to 5,500 Pascals. Like other premium iRobots (including the top model) they utilize smart mapping to produce precise floorplans and avoid household obstacles like furniture legs. They also feature carpet boost, a feature that boosts the robot's performance when it detects a lot of dirt on the carpet to get it cleaned quickly.

Both the Q5 and Q7 Max Series get very good scores in our bare floor tests, and they're particularly adept at cleaning pet hair. There are some issues however, which prevent them from being our top choice. One of them is that the Q5's navigation system does not feature AI-powered obstacle avoidance technology which means it's susceptible to become entangled in shoes and socks, and is unable to navigate tightly packed rooms very well in our tests. It also doesn't come with cameras that let it see the corners of an area.

However, it's a good choice, especially if you want to save money on an Roomba from iRobot, and you have a bare-floored home or office. Plus, it's very quiet and can be used while you're at work or going to school. The only thing it's missing that you won't find in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on floors that aren't clean. It's also less effective at mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes that don't hold on for long and don't deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 does have an auto-emptying dock, however. And, if you need to, you can swap the mopping pad to a dry one in just a few seconds.

2. iRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact sleek and stylish vacuum cleaner that also has the ability to mop floors. Its agile navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it simple to clean and effective at dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It also has a self-emptying dustbin, powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the most efficient robotic hoover for carpets but it's not as good as other hoovers in terms of deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mops utilizes sensors to keep away from obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the layout of your home over time to ensure cleaner and more efficient cleaning. You can modify its cleaning schedule and set up zones through the well-designed app. It has a battery lifespan that is comparable to other models.

You can tell the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and to extend them when in a carpeted area, which helps prevent cross-contamination. It did a good cleaning job on various floors and rooms with different kinds of flooring, including some area carpets. Its obstacle detection was top notch and it swiftly eluded fake dog socks, turds, shoes and cables.

It's a little more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however, it comes with superior suction, an onboard dustbin that automatically emptys into its base, and also supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It is able to clean floors even after it has vacuumed. This is a feature that we haven't seen on other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. IRobot Roomba X40

With a sleek circular design that appears more like a normal Roomba rather than the boxy units, this mop and robot vacuum is among the most attractive designs in our evaluations. The latest model from iRobot is also its smartest. It has advanced features such as Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that can wash mop pads on its own).

It's the only robotic mop or vacuum to score an exemplary 10/10 in our evaluations, thanks to a combination of high-tech sensors that include a camera, structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation autonomously. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mops.

As with other iRobot models like the X40 is easy to use, offering a simple mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Google Assistant. The only downside is that the X40 is still a loud unit. This can be a concern in the mornings before work, or during the night when you're trying to sleep.

It's also somewhat expensive, but it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs Omni or Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra Both of which are equally powerful and more attractive. It's a dual-purpose vacuum that is very efficient however it will cost you more and create more noise.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the line robot mop and vacuum. It comes with a variety of features that are advanced and will make you forget about your chores. Like Ecovacs range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that can take charge of both mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multi-function dock that automatically empty the vacuum's dust bin, fills its water tank, washes and dries its mop pads.

The smart robot vacuum cleaner employs a combination of LIDAR and structured light to map out floor plans and spot obstacles, making it more efficient than its more expensive competitors. It also has a front-mounted camera to detect hazards in real-time but this was not foolproof in our testing and was occasionally confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its vacuum has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to get the job done. It also has "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the amount of time the vac works and alters the frequency of cleaning for different areas of your home in accordance with the amount of dirt they are.

If you have a bigger home, it's worth selecting a model with a the option of cleaning zones or spots. This allows you to inform the robot of which area of your home must be cleaned by using the app or voice command. A stair mode can be useful if you have a number of furniture. Finally the recharge and resume function that allows your robot vacuum to take over exactly where it left off is great for busy families.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is more intelligent than its price would suggest. It's a pro at cleaning, removing 55% of the debris we found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with only one pad and a reciprocating motion which is cleaner than the majority mop cleaners for robots that we've tested. It's also self-sufficient with a full-featured app and a self-emptying base that is washable.

The well-designed iRobot app will guide you through a mapping exercise that collects information about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you have marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, or to create a spot-clean. It can also be used to it to prioritize the most soiled areas for greater efficiency. The app has a range of options, including seasonal suggestions, customized mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.

Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums, meaning it can reach corners and underneath furniture more easily. It features a powerful 8000 Pascal suction, as well as intelligent combs to remove pet hair. It also has the ability to set up a spot cleaning that intensely cleans a localized area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek and more affordable alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It's more appealing, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras look like cute eyes. It's good at vacuuming, but is more prone to get caught on low thresholds and is a bit noisier than the other top robot vacuum cleaner uk vacuums we've tested. It also has a less user-friendly app and a tiny base station that isn't able to double as an emptying bin.
