The Item Upgrader in World of Warcraft

The War Within introduced Valorstones, and Harbinger Crests as two currencies to upgrade equipment. They can be exchanged at the item upgrader NPCs, Cuzolth and Vaskarn.

Each item can be upgraded to its maximum level only once for the slot. Upgrades to that slot will be less expensive afterward. The pity system, which was introduced with The War Within, also reduces the extreme variance of upgrades.

Upgrades

Weapons, for instance require more Valorstones and crests to upgrade. Items from the cash shop can help to lower the cost.
