WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades provide a guaranteed boost to certain stats. Each upgrade boosts the level of an item by 3. Each upgrade also increases the random substatus.

Upgraded gear generally sees greater value for trade, unless it has inherently low requirements (like the FB sorc's shield) or has a high stat variance (like eth titan weapons). Upgrades are not as useful for the latter due to the need to roll an exact version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear by transferring the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of weapon or armor. The item used to upgrade the item will be consumed and cannot be used again. Upgrades can also be applied to enhancements.

Upgrades will cost more, based on the level of the item, but they will always be cheaper than purchasing new gear. Upgrades like upgrading a Benthic chest to 385 ilvl will cost you 20 recycle points. If you purchase a similar item upgrader kit, it will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to upgrade item weapon, armor, tool and accessory upgrades. They can be purchased by players through NPCs that sell upgrades to items in exchange for various currencies, and can also be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be applied to any weapon, tool or armor. The button will show the preview of an item's next upgrade level if there are enough materials.

The cost of upgrades varies based on the slot of the item and the current item level as well as the level of the weapon, which is more than bracers or gloves, for instance. Each step costs 15 Flightstones plus a set number of crests. Some upgrades offer a discount on the Flightstones. Once an item has been upgraded to a certain degree, it can be degraded and returned to the upgrader for a lesser amount of both currencies.

A lot of locations offer upgraders for items, including the main Island and a few outposts. The NPCs offer both an upgrade coupon and a chance to obtain an entirely new recipe. For instance it's best to make use of all your Whelpling-rank crests on the Best item upgrade equipment available, and then save Drake and Wyrm crests for the next batch of upgrades you plan to make. This is particularly applicable to rings and trinkets that fill multiple slots on the character, that will be able to benefit from the discount for all accounts when all slots are filled with high-quality gear.
