There is a nationwide shortage of medication to treat ADHD symptoms. This is due to manufacturing issues and the growing demand for ADHD medications worldwide.

A highly experienced psychiatrist consultant will conduct a thorough evaluation of your ADHD. This will include medical history and an assessment using the standard ADHD rating scales and questionnaires.

After your examination, you will be informed whether medication may be beneficial for your situation. This will take place during your follow-up appointment (which can be done in person by video link, in person or via phone). Your clinician will explain the various options for medication and, if you decide to begin taking medication, we will recommend titrating the dose to optimise the benefits/side effects balance for you.

This process can take several weeks and it involves gradually altering your child's medication until the right balance is reached. It is not unusual to need to titrate several times before determining the most effective one for your child's ADHD symptoms. It's important for parents to be involved in this titration process, and keep an watchful eye on their child's behavior to inform the doctor whether the medication is working or causing side effects.

If you decide to return to NHS treatment you will be issued an individual prescription for your medication. You will have to pay for your prescription at the pharmacy. This is not included in the consultation cost. You'll be required to attend every six months to check your medication - this includes blood pressure and pulse readings. Annual checks are also required.

Follow-up appointments

Once the assessment has been completed, you will be able to schedule follow-up appointments with the psychiatrist as appropriate. Typically, the appointment will take place on zoom video call however in some instances it might be possible to have an audio only consultation (again at an extra cost).

At this point we will discuss treatment options and agree upon a bespoke individualised ADHD medication titration program. This will include a review and discussion of your medication dosage and any adverse effects you might be experiencing. These titrations cost PS150 for face-to-face sessions and PS60 via video or telephone consultation. The cost of medication is additional and are paid directly to the pharmacy.

The psychiatrist will also ask you about your family background and the impact your ADHD symptoms can have on your life, as well as any relationship issues you might be having or titration process adhd other mental health issues you may be experiencing. We suggest that if you are unsure of your preferences, talk to your GP prior to scheduling your private assessment. Some providers have different policies regarding whether they require an GP letter. Check if your GP accepts a Shared Care Agreement, which means you will be referred to them once you leave the clinic for prescriptions for medication.

Medication

They will help your physician identify any factors that might suggest you should not take ADHD medication if prescribed.

If you are being titrated on medication, this will usually include a mix of stimulants and non-stimulant drugs. The combination will be carefully tested and monitored to find the best combination for you, taking into consideration any current conditions you suffer from.
