The best robot hoover can mop and vacuum without needing your attention, and it will leave your floors clean. Its low cost and top-of-the-line features (such as dirt detection) are a plus.

1. Roomba Q5 pro

The Q5 Pro and its sibling, the more expensive Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've tested. They feature top-of-the-line motors that can generate up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. Similar to other iRobots that are premium (including the most powerful model), they use smart mapping to create detailed floor plans and eliminate household obstacles such as cords and furniture legs. The robots also feature a feature called Carpet Boost that increases its power when it detects dirt on the carpet.

Both the Q5 as well as the Q7 Max Series get very high scores on our floor tests that test for bare floors and are particularly effective in cleaning pet hair. They do have some flaws however, which prevent them from being our top option. One of the weaknesses of the Q5 is that its navigation system doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance. It's also prone to getting stuck on socks and shoes and couldn't navigate rooms with lots of people well during our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that can see around corners.

It's still a good value for those whose home or office has a lot of unfinished flooring and you're looking to save some money. It's also extremely quiet and can be used while you are at work or in school. It doesn't have the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming offered in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective when it comes to mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere very well and cannot handle dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying cradle, however. If you're required to mop, the mopping pad can be changed for one that is wet in just a few seconds.

2. iRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact elegant vacuum cleaner that can also mop floors. Its agile navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it easy to clean and efficient at tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also has a self-emptying dustbin, powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, though it lags behind some competitors in deep cleaning.

This top-performing combination vacuum and mop utilizes advanced sensors to dodge obstacles and pet waste, and it learns your home's layout over time to ensure more efficient cleaning. You can change the schedule of cleaning and even customize zones with the well-designed app. Its battery life is average in comparison to similar models.

You can instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and to extend them when it's in a carpeted area to prevent cross-contamination. The flex arm can be used to reach beneath low-lying furnishings and along baseboards. It doesn't offer the same washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

During tests during testing, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop that could complete an entire home, and it did so with 66 percent of its battery left. It also did an excellent job cleaning a range of floors and rooms with different flooring types, including certain area carpets. Its obstacle detection was top notch and it was nimbly avoiding fake dog turds, socks, shoes, and bundles of cables.

It's a bit more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but it has superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can clean the floor even after it vacuums. This is something we haven't seen before on other robotic vacuum/mop combinations.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

With an elegant circular design that looks more like a normal Roomba than the competition's boxes, this mop and robot vacuum is one of the most appealing looking in our tests. The newest model from iRobot happens to be its smartest, with advanced features including Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology as well as future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can autonomously wash mop pads).

It's the only robotic vacuum/mop that has an exemplary 10/10 in our tests, thanks to a combination of high-tech sensors, which include a camera, structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot vacuum cleaner uk we tested that can fully autonomously refill and empty its base station, and boasts an the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.

As with other iRobot models as well, the X40 is user-friendly, offering an easy mobile app interface, and integration with Amazon Alexa, best robot hoover Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only downside is that the X40 is still a loud unit. This could be a concern in the mornings before work, or in the evening when you are trying to sleep.

It's also quite expensive, though it's not as expensive as Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are equally capable and look better. If you're willing to live with a bit more noise and a little more cost, this is a very capable two-in-one that should please almost everyone.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the line robot vacuum and mop. It has a range of features that are advanced and will help you forget your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning machine, similar to Ecovacs the top of the line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It features a multi-functional dock that can automatically emptys the bin of the vacuum and refills the water tank, and washes and dry the mop pads.

The smart robot employs a combination of LIDAR and structured light to map out the floor plan and detect obstacles, navigating more intelligently than some of its premium rivals. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards however, it wasn't foolproof in our testing and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its vacuum has a high suction maximum of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also comes with "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the intensity at which the vac works and alters the frequency of cleaning for different areas of your home depending on how dirty they tend to be.

For larger houses it's recommended to choose models with zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean one particular area of your home by using the app or voice controls. If you have lots of furniture, a stairway mode is also a good option. Additionally, a recharge and resume function that allows your robot vacuum to take over exactly where it left off is ideal for busy families.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is a cleaner with more intelligence than you would think from its price. It vacuums well, picking up 55% debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses with one pad, which uses an oscillating motion that is cleaner than the other mop cleaners for robots we've tested. It's also extremely self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app, and a self-emptying, washable base.

The iRobot app is designed to help you navigate a mapping run which collects information about your floorplan and any "no go" areas that you've marked on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules, or to create a spot-clean. You can also use it to prioritize the most soiled areas to improve performance. The app also provides access to a variety of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.

It can also reach corners and under furniture more easily because its shape is more rectangular. It has a powerful 8,000 Pascal suction and sophisticated combs that remove pet hair. You can also set up a spot-clean that will thoroughly clean the area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and more affordable alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive design, akin to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed to resemble adorable eyes. It does a good job vacuuming, but it is more susceptible to getting caught on low thresholds and is a bit more noisy than the other top robot vacuums we've examined. It also has an app that is less intuitive, and a smaller base station that does not double as a bin to empty.
