Origins

This level of disbelief is comparable to that of the United States where a similar percentage of people do not believe that humans evolved from lesser advanced forms of life.

In the past, the majority of the anti-evolution movements in Korea was focused on teaching college students and leading them to Christ. An increase in the interest in creation science occurred in the year 1980, when there was the inauguration of a four-day seminar during the World Evangelization Crusade in Seoul that featured Drs. Henry Morris and Duane Giss of ICR were the keynote speakers. This event was attended by an audience of professors, scientists, and church leaders.

The success of this event led to the establishment of the Korea Association of Creation Research (KACR) on January 31, 1981. The inauguration event was widely reported in national newspapers, such as The Korea Times and Chosun Ilbo and also was well-received by the public.

KACR began publishing a monthly newsletter, CREATION, in which it reported on its activities and also published articles on scientific evidence for creationism. It also translated slides and film strips from ICR and also some books on creationism which were already published outside of Korea. KACR members delivered lectures in universities and churches across the country.

A KACR success was observed at the KAIST University in Seoul. There, students were so interested in creationism that they raised the money and support to construct an on-campus museum with creationist fossil models and other exhibits.

In addition to its public activities, KACR publishes a bimonthly news magazine called CREATION which covers topics in the field of creation science, and it has sponsored a series of lectures by ICR staff. Changes in South Korea

In the latter part of the nineteenth century and into the early twentieth century, Korea began to adopt a more Westernized lifestyle. The traditional Korean dress, the hanbok was replaced by miniskirts, as well as other fashion elements from abroad. The traditional Korean music was also replaced by rock and roll and jazz. This was the end of the Three Kingdoms Period. From that point the Korean peninsula was controlled by the Goryeo Dynasty. In the Three Kingdoms period, Goguryeo, Baekje and Silla gradually grew to become powerful states in Manchuria and on the peninsula.
