WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give a guaranteed boost to certain stats. Each upgrade increases item level by +3. Each upgrade also increases the random substatus.

The upgraded gear is usually more valuable, unless the item has a low requirement by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a large variance in stats (like eth Titan weapons). Upgrades are not as valuable for the latter because of the requirement to roll an exact version.

Recycle Points

The upgrader for items allows players to upgrade their gear to a higher item level by supplying the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied on any type of weapon or armor. However, the item upgrading used to upgrade will remain in use for a long time and can't be used again. Upgrades can be used to create enchantments.

The upgrader can be found in all major cities and can be accessed at any time to upgrade your equipment. It is recommended that you visit the upgrader once every few weeks to ensure that your equipment is up-to-date.

The cost of upgrading will vary based on the current level of the gear being upgraded however, they will always be cheaper than buying new equipment from other sources. For instance upgrading a Benthic chest piece to 385 levels will cost 20 recycle points, while buying a similar item from another player will costs 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to level up weapons, tools, armor, and accessories. They can be purchased from item upgraders NPCs in a variety of currencies. They are also available on random treasure lists. Once an upgrade has been purchased it can be applied to any weapon or tool with a button, which displays an image of the item upgrade when it is upgraded in the event that the player has enough materials.

The cost of upgrades varies based on the item slot and the current level of the item and the weapon's price is higher than gloves or bracers, for instance. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones plus a set number of crests. Certain upgrades provide a discount on the Flightstones. After an item has been upgraded to a certain degree it is able to be degraded and sold back to the upgrader for a lesser amount of the two currency types.

Upgraders for items are available in a variety of locations including the main island as well as some outposts. The NPCs offer an upgrade coupon and a possibility of obtaining an entirely new recipe. The discount for upgrading increases when more items are upgraded. It can be increased by having players finish certain achievements or quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an item Level Upgrade upgrader at the beginning, unlike Cromwell from Baldur's Gate II. Instead the NPCs that are available to help with upgrades must be acquired through a variety of means that are both an improvement and a drawback.

In Season 3, several new features were added to the upgrade system. After the player has upgraded to a certain item level for an armor slot, upgrading other items to the same level, will cost less. This applies regardless of whether the items are from another set of gear.

The discount applies to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests needed for upgrades is reduced also, but is only available once certain milestones are reached.

Crests

When upgrading gear in WoW players have a couple of choices. Flightstones are an item that is available to all players for upgrading. Crests are more specific and are utilized during specific item level upgrades. Crests are the main component of the Dragonflight gear progression system introduced in 10.1, and come in 4 ranks.

The first thing to be aware of is that crests can only be used on gear of a specific rank, and that every rank has different requirements for its upgrade path. The easiest and most straightforward upgrade is 15 crests. The most complicated upgrade requires up to 20 crests, based on the kind of equipment that is being upgraded.

Players can obtain crests by completing content of the appropriate level, whether that involves walking around and engaging in outdoor activities to get lower-tier gear, dungeons or raids of all difficulties for higher-tier items, or Mythic+ dungeons or heroic raid bosses to obtain endgame gear. These crests are then exchanged with an upgrader for the item such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn in Valdrakken for the appropriate upgrade steps and paths.

The new currency system isn't complicated to use, but it will bring some changes to the upgrade process. For instance, when an item is at the highest upgrade level of any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic), it will no longer require Flightstones to be upgraded. This is to allow players to get their equipment up to the highest possible ilvl on all their characters, instead of relying only on seasonal loot.

Another notable change is that crests only have one usage therefore it's essential to use them wisely. For instance, it's a good idea use all of your Whelpling-rank crests on the Best item upgrade equipment you have, and then save Drake and Wyrm crests for the next batch of upgrades you're planning on making. This is especially true for items such as trinkets and rings that take up multiple slots. The discount on the account is only applicable when all the slots on the character are filled with high-quality equipment.
