WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give a guaranteed boost to certain stats. Each upgrade boosts the level of an item by 3. A random extra substat is also increased with each upgrade.

Upgraded gear is generally more valuable, unless it has a low requirement by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a large variance in stats (like Eth Titan weapons). Upgrades aren't as useful for the latter due to the requirement to roll an exact version.

The upgrader for items allows players to upgrade item gear to a higher level by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied on any type of armor or weapons. However, the item that is used for the upgrade will remain in use for a long time and cannot be used again. Upgrades can be applied to Enchantments.

You can upgrade your gear anytime by visiting the upgrader in any major city. It is recommended to visit the upgrader once every few weeks, to keep your equipment up-to-date.

The cost of upgrading will vary based on the current Best item upgrade level of the gear being upgraded, but will always be less expensive than buying new equipment from other sources. For example, upgrading a Benthic chest piece to ilvl 385 will cost 20 recycle points, while buying a similar item from a different player will cost 105.

Upgrades are useful items that can be used to improve the quality of weapons and tools, armor and other accessories. They can be bought by players from NPCs that sell upgrades to items in exchange for various currencies, and may also be found in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade has been purchased, it can be applied to any weapon, tool, or armor using a button, which will show a preview of the item at the next upgrade level in the event that the player has enough materials.

The cost of upgrading is based on the item slot and the current item level, with weapons costing more than bracers or gloves, for instance. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones plus a certain number of crests. Some upgrades give a discount on the Flightstones. After an item has been upgraded to a certain degree, it can be downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower price.

Crests

This change is designed to allow players to get their equipment to the highest possible ilvl for all their characters instead of relying only on seasonal loot.

Another notable change is that crests only have one purpose, so it's important to use them wisely. For instance it's a good idea make use of all your Whelpling-rank crests on the top equipment available and then keep Drake and Wyrm crests for the next round of upgrades you plan to make. This is particularly relevant for items like rings and trinkets that occupy multiple slots. The account-wide discount will only apply when all slots on the character are filled with high-quality equipment.
