Item upgrades are a key element of enhancing your character. Upgrades increase the damage of your item upgrader kit upgrade (more resources) and enhancements.

They also offer rewards and upgrades. They can be acquired through the Blacksmith.

The upgrade button can be found on any item. Each item recycled adds a level to the upgrade item gauge.

Weapons

If a weapon is upgraded, it gets an initial damage bonus as well as an adjustment factor that affects other stats. Certain upgrade components have cosmetic effects, while others offer additional benefits. These upgrades can be inserted into armor, weapons, trinkets and gathering tools, and they generally require the equipment to have an available upgrade slot and meet certain requirements. Once a weapon or armor piece has an upgrade component in it, it can be replaced with another but the prior upgrade will be destroyed (except for legendary equipment and upgrades). Upgrade components can be retrieved through the Black Lion Salvage Kit, Ascended Salvage tool, or a higher-tier salvaging tool for an item.

In addition to the basic upgrades, a weapon can be upgraded using the Calibration Attribute which improves certain stats such as Weakspot Damage or Crit Rate. This is done via the Gear Workbench's interaction menu. Based on the tier of the weapon the process can be repeated up to four times.

Once the weapon has reached the maximum level of upgrade, it may be reforged using a variety of different upgrade types to boost specific stats or add other bonuses and effects. Several of these upgrades can be re-applied at once, and the effects vary depending on the nature of the weapon.

Two Blacksmiths are able to perform these upgrades in the game: Blacksmith Iji on the Road to the Manor Site of Grace and Smithing Master Hewg at the Church of Elleh hub. The upgrade materials are both different: Smithing Stones to modify the damage a weapon deals and Somber Smithing Stones to modify the standard weapons.

It is generally recommended to upgrade weapon damage first, then armor defense, and finally the other secondary stats as required by your build. Particularly, it is common to see melee druids upgrading their weapon before they upgrade any other gear, as this helps maximise DPS. This is particularly relevant to enchantments that can be very effective in boosting a weapon's damage and other stats.

Armor

Item upgrades allow players to improve the base stats of specific pieces of armor, weapons, trinkets and gathering tools. They can also provide additional effects such as increased damage or cosmetic enhancements. Item Upgrades can be obtained through crafting, buying from NPC vendors, in loot drops, or as rewards from quests.

The armor can be upgraded by visiting the Armorer NPC, and spending the appropriate currency. In the majority of cases, a piece of armor will be upgraded to next level once an upgrade is applied. Most armor types are upgradeable, however certain items (such as the starter armour in Great Sky Island) cannot.

Most armor upgrades offer a small increase to the item's defense or strength. Some upgrades, however, could result in significant improvements in strength or defense. This is especially true when upgrading epic items.

Certain upgrades offer specific abilities that can be activated while wearing armor. These abilities can prove beneficial in combat. For example they can increase the speed of attack or block. Some upgrades also provide useful passive effects, for instance decreasing the amount of damage taken while wearing armor or adding the chance to avoid attacks.

Upgrades to armor may require multiple attempts, depending on the type. If a player wants to upgrade Steelclash armor into Dragonscale, then the first attempt will result in a brand new Dragonscale armor that has an armor base defense of 59-67. The second attempt would result in a Dragonscale armor that has an initial defense range of between 67-77.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild allows players to upgrade items their armor sets to level 4. To do so it is necessary to visit each of the four locations known as Great Fairy Fountains in the game. Each of these locations is home to a powerful fairy who can upgrade one piece of armor for the player.

Contrary to popular belief armor isn't useless in The Division 2. Certain armors give a substantial boost to the reduction of damage from poison, curse, magic, or fire. This makes them very useful for certain types of builds. There are many other ways to boost the stats of armor besides upgrading armor, such as using the engineer attribute to increase armor penetration or the challenger to reduce total weight.

Potion

By putting a potion in a stand for brewing, you can unlock new effects. The upgrade unlocks another effect tier, and is able to be repeated to increase the potency.

The potions also have an individual color, which can be set by the player using /give. This color will affect the area-of-effect clouds as well as the arrows generated. In Bedrock Edition, the custom color of the potion also affects the effects of the potion's particle effects.

The water bottle, mundane and thick potions, as well as awkward potions, now have a distinct texture when they are brewed. In the Creative Inventory, potion healing and potion weakness are now available. The potions are lingering and can be brewed with dragon breath or splash potions, and a thick potion with the status effect of Mining Fatigue (duration 4 hours). Trinket

A trinket could be an inexpensive, small ornament or piece jewelry. It could be a necklace or ring. It could also be a small banner to mark the lateen yard of a boat. It could also refer to a gold-plated trinket on the mast of a ship.

This bizarre trinket seems to be influencing the inhabitants of this maze by making them more common. This trinket at the moment, makes all types Xx of mimics more common and gives each floor an probability of Y% that it contains an ebony copy. This trinket costs a moderate amount of energy to upgrade.

The magic from the enchanted scepter is believed to affect the dungeon itself which makes it more likely to create grass and water. At its current level this trinket can make X% of regular floors fill with grass or water, but doesn't affect enchantments or the glyphs, cursed weapons, armor, or items generated to solve hazard rooms.

Although it appears to be an ordinary eye of a newt, this mysterious object appears to be affecting your vision in ways that go beyond simply reducing your field of view. At the moment, this trinket can increase the total health benefits of drinking potions of healing, waterskins, and wells of health by X% and grants mind the ability to see enemies within the Y tiles. This is not a stacking feature with the Heightened Senses.

After you have completed the Mastery Cave After completing the Mastery Cave, you will be able to find Trinkets by taking on Monsters and inside crates and chests in Skull Cavern. They cannot be found in the Mines or Volcano Dungeon.

If you find a trinket that needs to be upgraded, place it in the Anvil to do so. This will create an unpredictable effect on the trinket, either increasing its duration or enhancing its effects. You can reforge the Trinket as many times as you want but it will always have an effect that is new.

You can upgrade your Trinkets in the Alchemy Station by placing them into the Magical Catalyst. It will cost you 6 energy, however it will increase the trinkets power by a small amount.
