What is an Item Upgrader in Pokemon Go?

Costs

Upgrades have a few associated costs. The first is the cost for the upgrade. This price is contingent on the new ilvl of the item and the number of perks it gains, and can be expensive. It is also costly to upgrade an item to a higher level (such as Explorer > Champion, or Veteran > Heroic).

The other is the cost of the items required to upgrade. You can also add other materials to the upgrade to increase the chance of success. The materials are displayed in a window above the + button. There are a few limitations. The maximum amount of material you can add is shown directly above the + button.

Another way to increase the odds of an upgrade achieving success is to use an item called a Blacksmith Blessing or an upgraded version of it. This item can be useful when your piece of equipment or weapon is close to or has reached the maximum level of its tier. It will allow you to upgrade that piece of gear to the next level without having to worry about it breaking.

If an upgrade fails the upgrade will be reversed to its original state. This is usually a break, but it could also be a downgrade. Keep an upgrade in reserve until you reach the maximum level for an item.
