World of Warcraft Upgrades and Item Upgrading

Upgrades boost the value of certain numeric stats on weapons, armor and rings. They also boost extra bonuses, such as damage from PvE and crit chance.

If the template for upgrading a weapon ends in %, it will increase an additional 3% of the previous damage for every time it is upgraded.

The cost of upgrading an item is determined by the item's level. The cost increases as the item level rises.

Components

Upgrade components can be incorporated into weapons, armor and trinkets in order to give them a stat boost or add a bonus effect. They can be obtained by crafting, buying from vendors trading or looting. Some upgrades also have special cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components can be placed in equipment that has a slot to accommodate them; the item must be at the very least upgraded to blue level in order for the component to be applied. Like other mods, upgrade components can only be used once and cannot be applied multiple times or replaced with new upgrades. Infusions and enrichments are a kind of upgrade component that is used to upgrade non-amulet legendary or Ascended equipment, as well in some items that aren't ascended. Infusions and enrichments can be retrieved by salvaging gear from the ascended, or completing an elite task in the Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall campaigns.

A suffix or prefix can be added to an upgrade, changing the name of the item it's used on (for example, 'Canthan Armor Insignia,' is changed to Canthan Armor Minor Vigor). Certain upgrades boost the Mark Rarity or Level of an item, which lets players to create stronger versions of the item using the smallest amount of upgrade crystals than they require to achieve the same level using standard methods.

A 'boost' upgrade can change the attack or defence characteristics of the weapon or armor. These upgrades are available to be made using the Portative Forging Station once the player completes the cutscene and defeats the Crazed Mechanic. These upgrades can be obtained by purchasing them from the cash shop, or by obtaining them from enemies when upgrading other gear.

The player can get the maximum of five boost upgrades at one time. Each upgrade increases the likelihood that a higher-level version of the item will appear in the next reset. This gives the player an incentive to keep upgrading their gear, even if they're unsure of how much it will improve following a subsequent reset.

Whether a boost upgrade is successful or not, the process could be expensive, and there is a significant possibility that the item will be obsolete or even break if it fails; a failure to upgrade can destroy the Upgrade Crystals and Assist Powder as well as the upgraded item. This is mitigated by the availability of cash shop items that can increase or even eliminate the possibility of failure, as well as some upgrades that offer a bonus when reinserted into an item.

Glyphs

Leveling

Every upgradeable item is assigned a level which determines the final stats. Upgraded items may be leveled to a maximum of ilvl 385. Each level requires a different number of components to be reached and the cost of upgrading increase as the item is advanced in level.

Certain upgrades require an ingredient to be activated. This ingredient can be obtained by finishing Upgrade Recipes. These recipes can be found in the upgrade tab of a crafting table, or purchased from some NPCs. Each Upgrade Recipe completed results in a certain amount of Technology points. These points can be used to the upgrading of an item. When enough points have been earned you will be able to claim the upgrade and get its extra bonuses.

When an individual player improves a piece of equipment the original item will be replaced with the new item. The same armor will be upgraded to a weapon or a shield when upgraded. The new Best item upgrader will also have a unique bonus. This can be a downside, as the item level upgrade can increase in price even if you don't need it.

Item upgrades can sometimes be rerolled, if the player has enough tokens to do this. The item will be replaced by the same item, but it has a base of level 1 and totally different bonuses. This is a good option for certain items, however it's not something that should be repeated often, as it can use up many resources.

Certain upgrades can be rerolled many times which increases their value and giving players the ability to alter their gear. Dolphin's Gift is a good example, as it provides a buff if the player repeatedly enters or exits water. The item can be upgraded many times and increases the maximum roll every time by 10 increments. This item is highly important in PvP. A properly rolled version can be worth up to 50x the value of the non-upgraded counterpart.

Requirements

The ability to upgrade items allows players to upgrade the level of their available gear--armor, weapons and trinkets over ilvl 385 by offering the appropriate items and currency to an item upgrader NPC. Upgrades to armor set pieces also improve the strength of their base defense, while upgrades to weapon items increase the damage they deal as well as the required strength and dexterity.

All items can be upgraded up to five times, with the exception of hero gear which can be upgraded with eight upgrades. Every time you upgrade an object it is at risk of failing. The probability of failure increases as you move beyond the maximum number. Failures will result in the item reverting to its initial condition, which requires the user to spend more money on materials than they would had they stopped upgrading at the maximum number of upgrades.

If an item fails to upgrade, the amount of accumulated experience in its growth bar is reset to zero. The player will be able to use their weapon or armor after the failure.

If an item is upgraded, the upgrades are applied in order from the lowest to the highest. This means that if a weapon gains a crit chance increase that it will be applied before any damage to attack increases. Slots is a brand-new attribute that was added to item definitions. The value is recalculated each time an upgrade occurs.

The amount of resources required to upgrade an item is based on the rarity rating as well as the number of upgrade slots. The cost of upgrading non-premium equipment is equivalent to its base value.
